Spider-Man: Special Edition (US - DVD R1)
Columbia Tristar’s Special Edition of Spider-Man has a good number of hidden features scattered over its two discs. Here&rsq...
If you find the DVD menus a little tricky to navigate, on the Main Menu simply press the up button on your remote control, then press enter. This will present you with a new menu featuring a comprehensive list of everything on the disc. Much easier I’m sure you’ll agree. You can also access this quick menu by highlighting the spider symbol inside the Main Menu button on each screen.
From the Main Menu, go to the Special Features section. Once there select Character Files and then select one of the principal cast members. On the second page of each biography press up on your remote to highlight the actor’s name. Press enter on your remote and you’ll be treated to the biography of the character played by that actor. It’s also worth pointing out that the illustrations on these pages are taken from scenes from the movie. The above work for all actors save Cliff Robertson (Uncle Ben).
If you head to the Commentaries section of the disc and highlight the Special Features menu entry at the bottom of the screen, then press left on your remote, a spider symbol will appear. Press enter and you will be treated to around two and a half minutes of 'CGI Bloopers'.
From the Main Menu head to Web of Spider-Man menu and from there select the DVD-ROM menu entry. Next, press up on your remote to highlight Spider-Man’s mask. Press enter and you will be treated to 'A New Twist on the Webs,' which features Todd McFarlane discussing his approach to drawing Spiderman’s webbing.
From the Web of Spider-Man menu select the Evolution of Spider-Man option, then the Artists Gallery menu entry. Press right on your remote and a new entry, The Romitas, will appear at the top of the screen. Press enter to watch a three and a half minute featurette on comic book artists John Romita and his son John Romita Jr.
Now enter the Artist Gallery section (also known as Peter Parker’s darkroom) and head to the Comic Book Artist Gallery entry. While browsing the gallery look for the artwork drawn by Terry Dodson, then highlight the camera that is used for navigating and press up. You'll see Terry Dodson's signature on the drawing. Press enter and you'll be taken to another gallery that contains famous scenes from Spider-Man comics drawn in the style of the movie.
Head to the Web of Spider-Man menu again, then enter The Evolution of Spider-Man menu. Now click on the Rogue’s Gallery menu entry and once there, press up on your remote to highlight Spider-Man’s head (his 'Spider Sense' should tingle). Press enter to see information on 'The Sinister Six', complete with 3D renderings.
Keeping with the Rogue’s Gallery, additional 3D renderings of Electro, Venom and Scorpion are available. To view these, highlight the Spider-Man icon at the bottom of each screen and then press down on your remote to highlight a Spider-Man silhouette. Press enter and you’ll be treated to full-screen 3D renderings of the characters.
