That's high def audio. No point having BD/HD DVD without it. You will be able to tell the difference.
Yer thats just jibberish to me Happy
Have been looking at the Onkyo stuff and am torn between the 605 and the 505. Only difference seems to be a couple of extra connections and this "DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS-HD High Resolution Audio, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus Decoding" which i don't think I'll be able to tell the diff.
I agree with Chris - The Onkyo stuff is very nice - I have an old 7.1 at home and it is very clear and crisp. Need to upgrade soon as the one I have doesn't have HDMI.
I have Polk Audio speakers for the mains (pricey!) but have some B&W and a Jamo sub....

Just to give you an idea...

It pays for my toys. Suggestion: Firefox+AdBlock.

Anyway, look at the Onkyo amps at Richer Sounds. This one is 7.1 and does both DTS-HD HR/MA and Dolby Digital Plus/TrueHD decoding, along with the usual Dolby/DTS stuff. Four hundred squid.
$400 dollar diff? you're getting ripped off over there across the pond. An entire 7.1 receiver is $400 - $600 here.

To answer your question though, it depends mostly on the size of the room...big room, more speakers, little room, less.
I'm not a big fan of Sony's lower models, they're not bad but there not as good build quality as their more expensive models...
Your best bet for this sort of thing Nic are the forums over at What hi-fi.
6.1 vs 7.1
Hello Children

Just want to know, this whole 7.1 surround sound, is there *really* that much of a difference to warrant a £200 price jump in   the AV receivers I'm looking at?
My living room isn't that massive and it's an awkward shape anyway so I can't get the layout perfect.

And does anyone know if this is decent receiver?

Also can anyone direct me to some speakers & sub etc that aren't c**p but don't kill my bank account?
