It was broadcast in a 1.78:1 ratio, filled the entire screen, but the the DVDs aren't anamorphic so we got black bars surrounding the entire video. I still haven't bought the DVD yet. But its been ages since I watched House because of the World Series.

No, it was always 4:3 transfer. Good show too.
Depends on what the affiliate station you watch it on chooses to do and/or whether you are viewing their HD broadcast. Some stations crop it to be 4:3, others air it in its correct aspect ratio of 1.78:1. My local ABC affiliate chose to air Lost in 4:3, so I chose not to watch it on their station.

Amazon and DeepDiscountDVD both list it as being 1.78 widescreen for the DVD, though it isn't specified as anamorphic.

I thought House M.D. was released with an anamorphic, 1.78:1 transfer already.
If it's shot that way and it's popular enough. If trends continue, it'll likley show up when the next season starts. Whatever the next season is. I don't watch it.
Anamorphic House Season One in future?
Will there be a possible anamorphic release of House, M.D. Season One in the future?
