A new guy in the main role? C'mon... The answer is so simple, if it was a Snake it would have bit them.
I dont get it either. This movie needs a part three with Russell and Carpenter to complete the trilogy. I even think Carpenter said he had the idea once a while back...
As for the Omega Man... I thought the original sucked so far from the material source a fresh new take was welcome until I started fearing the 'changes for changes sake'.

..."Everybody knows about..HOLLYWOOD.."....
The idea for the third movie was to call it Escape From Earth.

I would love to see a faithful "I am Legend" made, but that's never going to happen. This new one with Smith is going to be an "Omega Man" remake, not "I am Legend", despite its title, except that the "creatures" will be more like their counterparts in the book, but no Cortman.
"The Omega Man" is far from the perfect movie, but it's fun to watch on a Sunday afternoon with nothing to do. Here's hoping an SE comes out to coincide with "I am Legend" this November (or is it now December?).

I mean really, is it really necessary?
I know, money money money... It's a shame. It'll probably cost $400 Million, and then they'll all scratch their heads when it doesn't break even. Well, when the original has a large fanbase and would frown upon a remake, it's no wonder.
The Day the Earth Stood Still
The Omega Man (won't be the same as the book from what I've read, so really no point there)
Rear Window
The Birds
Others whose names Escape me...
Any others you want to ruin? I hear "The Godfather" is worth revisiting, oooh and "Citizen Kane" too!
