It is. I got the BD yesterday and watched it last night. Decent video upgrade, not so much the audio (but I suspect they did the best they could with the available resources).

I'm digging the new isolated score track. Wish all of Carpenter's films on Blu-ray--or DVD for that matter--had this option, but so far only the Assault on Precinct 13 BD has offered it.
I have managed to hold on to my Halloween and The Fog laserdiscs with the isolated score tracks though.

I think the first DVD release of The Thing had an isolated score too.
