stanton heck wrote: I guess Paramount thinks Tom Cruise is over-rated and over-paid.

Overpaid does not equate to overrated.  The whole Tom Cruise thing is probably going to bite Paramount in the ass.  They may have paid him a boatload of money, but he made them even more money.
some guy at the very first page mentioned robert de niro..de niro is one of the best and he is also dedicated...check on his early days..now its all laughs and cries...but it was big time be4...

I guess Paramount thinks Tom Cruise is over-rated and over-paid.
Actually I think Diane Ladd is the most under rated actor/actress. Opinions?

Yes, Willy Wonka, Edward Scissorhands, Donnie Brasco, Jack Sparrow, Glen (Nancy's boyfriend in A Nightmare on Elm Street), Ed Wood, Cry Baby... they're all identical characters...
Kozinski wrote: I think that Johnny Depp and Ron Perlman are both actually UNDERRATED actors.

What a bad generation.
There is no Henry Fonda,Spencer Tracey,John Wyane,Harrison Ford
Just pretty boys who like NSYNC
Jim Carrey IMO

Same character, different job...

No not same character, same face. There is a difference.

Clooney's characterisation of Doug Ross is miles apart from his character in Syriana. It's as far from Seth Geckko (spelling unsure) as you could hope for (were you watching the same movie). His characterisation in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, yes it's so transparent isn't it? It's Doug Ross with a moustache.

Even characters that on the surface might seem similar say the ones in Three Kings and Peacmaker for example, (both army types) are poles apart. One is highly skilled and motivated (Peacemaker) the other jaded and cynical.

It's acting. It's pretend and the only thing these characters have in common as far as I can see, is that they all look like the actor George Clooney.

Gunsprout, you obviously don't like Clooney much and that's fine. Your not compelled to but this dislike is probably why you see all his parts the same as Doug Ross for ER.

My point of view is the flip side of that though. I'm a fan of Clooney's work particularly the choices he has made recently (compared to the road he could have chosen) and that is why I see more than Doug Ross going on with each new film.
I'm with Jaded, I never really understood the whole Johnny Depp craze. sure..he's a good actor..but he always plays the creepy guy...fairly the same roles all the time

Batman = Doug Ross does superheroing
The Peacemaker = Doug Ross does Action Man
From Dusk Til Dawn = Doug Ross being bad (although I did actually like this film!)
Three Kings = Doug Ross does Action Man again
The Perfect Storm = Doug Ross does sailing

The guy perfected his form of acting in ER (ie: being smug or having a strop) and hasn't changed character since.

Other than the actor, those characters have almost nothing in common nor does Clooney's portrayal of them have anything in common.  I love how people knock actors and say that all their roles are the same.

Whew... good, I was glad you were joking, and I missed the sarcasm...  I don't normaly totally disagree with many around here, but I thought that one was way off.  Glad that got cleared up.

We need a 'sarcasm' bullit or something.

But I respect ESPO's right to make it of course.

Unfortunately, sarcasm rarely plays out in text very well.

Absolutely correct. Jack Sparrow is exactly the same character as Ed Wood, Willy Wonka, JM Barrie, Donnie Brasco, Edward Scissorhands, Hunter Thompson.....the list goes on and on. Depp is such a one trick pony.

I can not agree with the comparison of the overly flamboyant Captain Jack Sparrow is played the same as Edward Scissorhands, or Donnie Brasco.  He may play many goofy character pieces (like Wonka or Wood), but he does have a differant approach to them.  I understand this is just some opinions here, and I am not his biggest fan out there, but I think he can do more then one way to act.

Clooney is really one of the better actor's out there.  Now, he is making better choices in what roles he played.  The whole Batman debacle was not Clooney's fault, other than for taking on the role.  Besides, that the only other really bad acting job by him was Return of the Killer Tomatoes.

How can Bruce Campbell be overrated?  He knows that he is just a B actor and he is totally happy with that.  You won't see Bruce going out and making Shakespeare movies.

Not as good as Delicatessen, or Amélie.

They think he is cute.  They don't think he can act.  At least, I think they can tell the difference.

I wasn't really picking on you Tony.  Unfortuantely, Perlman hasn't really appeared in many mainstream movies.  But then again, I have been watching him since before you were born.  I was really surprised that he never turned his success in Beauty and the Beast into more of a career.  Hellboy, at least so far, seems to have raised his visibility somewhat.
Adrian wrote: Tony DeFrancisco wrote:

Huh? Star Trek: Nemesis, Hellboy, Enemy at the Gates? If no one knows him from these films from his main or supporting roles from the last five years, maybe they should do a little research.

You really made my point for me Tony.  Look at the movies you listed (except enemy at the gates) and those are all movies that were not big hits outside of their genres.  The average movie goer would not be able to pick Ron Perlman out of a crowd.  He is not well known and probably never will be.[/quote] You're right, sorry about that. I never knew he had so many cartoon voice roles as not as many film roles. Kinda surprised me actually. Those three films I listed were only on the top of my head.
Chris wrote: I imagine a few people know of Pearlman from Beauty and the Beast.

I was going to bring that up, but you know, I doubt many people knew that Perlman played Vincent and even if they did they wouldn't have known what he looked like out of costume.  Will we ever get that show on DVD?
Chris wrote: I imagine a few people know of Pearlman from Beauty and the Beast.

it's spelled Perlman NOT Pearlman

Huh?  Johnny Depp is one of the greatest actors of our times.  He just avoided main stream movies.  Pirates of the Carribean is a good movie, but hardly representative of what an actor Depp can be.

You really like starting threads, don't you.  The 1st 7 threads are your's.  Well, I'd say George Clooney is pretty overrated.  He's good, but doesn't really stand out in my mind.  For an actress, Sandra Bullock.  She was good in Crash, but in everything else she's just loud and obnoxious.
