A lot of people complained about the transfer on the first release, so Sony released the new version using a different, remastered source print and MPEG-4 AVC compression instead of the MPEG-2 transfer on the first release. Apparently the only way to tell the difference between the two releases if you are looking to purchase it is to look at the back of the packaging; if Sony's "Full HD 1080" logo is on the back then it's the newer release. Sony also set up an exchange program for those wanting to turn in the older disc fo the new one.
