Correct me if I'm wrong, but they didn't fire Pierce Brosnan.
My fave is "The Living Daylights". Watched the new remastered DVD last night. Timothy Dalton is so COOL! Too bad he only lasted two Bond Films.
I forgot to mention...my fav is "The Man With the Golden Gun"
and fav Bond is Connery...but I realy regret that Lazenby didn't play Bond longer..i think he was realy good.
Tomorow is the day of the Polish premier of new Bond's UE...and I only have money for two single titles...and I still can't decid which one to get

My favorite Bond films are Moonraker, You Only Live Twice, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, and the Living Daylights. The early Bonds like From Russia With Love get better with each viewing. I have faith in the new Bond actor since Craig was fantastic in Layer Cake.
My only problem with Brosnan is that sometimes his emotional range was limited depending on which Bond film he was in. It might be his fault or the directors of some of the films.

Personaly, I can't wait..i'm goin to see it the first day ti'll be on...as a big Bond fan, ican't wait to see what have they done this time, and, what bothers me the most, how is Daniel Craig as new double-o-seven. I think that Brosnan was a good Bond, so as I was disapointed when they have fired him, i'm hopeing the new Brit will do fine
.
P.S> what was your favourite Bond film, and which of the actros was your fav 007 ???
Greatings
I suggest you save the money since the price of 2 single ones is probably 2/3 the cost of a box set with 5 (I do not know this as fact, but it is often the case).
My favourite by Bond: 1. Connery: Goldfinger
2. Lazenby: OHMSS (yes yes, no need to tell me it's his ONLY movie, but I rank OHMSS in the top five of the 20 Bond films anyways, otherwise I wouldn't include him at all)
3. Moore: For Your Eyes Only
4. Dalton: Licence to Kill
5. Brosnan: GoldenEye
I am glad they are keeping the torture scene true to the book (and just including it, despite it being performed on television in 1954). I wish it could be rated R, but we all know it wouldn't fly.
If I may add a question to the thread: Out of curiousity, how many of you have seen the 1967 spoof version and the TV version? What did you think?
Personally I liked the 1954 version, as it was faithful enough to the book (more so than some of the later features). The 1967 version is not without its charms.

I read the novel in the summer. It's a great story and the torture scene is pretty tough to take if you're a guy
I'm interested in seeing what the filmmakers do to string it out to a whole movie, especially since Tarantino offered to direct Casino Royale himself before this was announced. I just hope they don't fill it with invisible cars and random babes for the sake of it. We've already got 20 versions of that! I'm a big Bond fan as well before anyone starts

There is no such 10 Disc boxes in R2 like they are in US R1..there are 4 boxes with 5 Bonds each in Poland, but unfortunately the come with 5 single-disc editions..so not interesting. I wil buy them sepretly.
I just read on one of the Polish portals, that the British critics reaction to the new Bond are at least good.
In "The Times", "The Mirror", "The Sun", "The Telegraph" and "The Daily Mail" the called Daniel Craig the best Bond since Sean Connery, and "Casino Royal" itself the best Bond movie since 1995 "Goldeneye".
If the critics are that excited about it..then oooooooo...i can't wait even more....
P.S. I just picked my first ULTIMATE EDITION Bond...."The World is Not Enough"...i know it's not the best of the serie, but it's the one I don't remember.

I think the only random babe we're getting this time is Solange, Le Chiffre's mistress (not in the book if memory serves). No gadgets, no worries.

Well, I dunno, when I first got my 007s a few years back (single disc), they were $25 each, or $90 for a set of [00]7...

Well actually, I don't understand. Let me try and piece it together... They have 2 disc Bonds sold individually. But in the box sets with 5 movies, they are only single disc, right?
2 disc: $16.50 each (all 20 costing $330)
Box Set of 5 (single disc): $?
Metal Briefcase: $465 ($135 more than buying individually)
Sorry, I'm just extremely confused, especially since I remember you saying you wanted the Briefcase in another thread (I could be mistaken so I apologise if I am).
But I can see how buying them individually is more cost efficient than buying an elaborate metal briefcase to keep them in.

The movies are on TV so much here in the States (even in widescreen) that I've never seen cause to buy them. I've thought that the last two Bronson films were dire, but might give this new one a shot. I like their choice in actor, and hope they aren't lying about the grittiness.
Also, Spider-Man 3 trailer!

that's right..the 4 boxes with 5 Bonds come in single-disc edition each. (u know, I live in Middle or you might call it Eastern Europ..and distributors here think, that peole who buy DVD's would welcome riped-off boxes for jus a bit lower price)..each of the 5-Disc boxes costs $63.
And as for the brifcase..yes again..the brifcase itself cost around $135..so I see no point in buying it, and yeas I wanted it, but not for that price.

Yeah, I gathered you were in Middle or Eastern Europe what with the R2 references and your location set as Poland
All right, sorry for the confusion, just wanted to be clear.
Have you read the book (Casino Royale) £ukasz?
Gabe: My introduction to Bond several years back was because every Saturday night they'd play one on one of 2 channels for the late night movie. I had them all (recorded, albeit, with commercials, hence my desire for the DVDs) within 3 months. Have all the DVDs. Won't be a broken record

I haven't read a novel in years, so no.
i haven't read it.
I haven't read very much of the book. (Only what I could get away with in the bookstore.)
Anyway Connery is by far the best Bond, with Moore very close behind. My favorite Bonds would be:
Connery - Goldfinger
Moore - A View to a Kill
Dalton - Living Daylights
Brosnan - The World is Not Enough

My favorite Bond is Sean Connery, easily, with George Lazenby and Pierce Brosnan as my other favorites, while Roger Moore did an okay job, although Moonraker and Live and Let Die are excellent. Craig looks like he's doing an excellent job from the clips I've seen.
My NEW favourite Bond list:
Connery
Craig
Moore
Brosnan
Dalton

those who already have seen new Bond..pleas post your opinions .
I thought it was brilliant. Bond is back (and he doesn't give a damn!). Craig owned the role (where are all the naysayers now?). I'm glad they kept the original story intact (the novel was pretty short so they had a lot to fill) and it filled in quite nicely with the new stuff (although, with Bond, faithful adaptations aren't a must, so this can be overlooked anyway). Even though I knew where everything was going, it was still suspenseful and thrilling. It seems that Bond is more reliant on the staff at MI6 now, but hopefully that's just a precaution for a 00's first mission. I won't tempt you with ending spoilers (even if I put, you'll read anyways) but it is very well done and, again, Bond is back!
M has a more comic role in this one. She provides many jokes which seemed odd, but were really in character enough to believe ( "Back in the old days if an agent screwed up he'd have the good sense to defect! Christ I miss the Cold War!" )
Overall, it's in my top 5 Bond list (although it will take a few re-watches on DVD to actually rank it, it's coming out March 27th.

When the film first started I was a little shocked at the lack of a gun barrel logo at the very first. However, it worked out fine the way they ended up doing it. The film was very enjoyable, even without the one-liners and Q-branch which I really missed both. Oh well. I do recommend this, as it is definitely one of the better bonds.
Casino Royale shook up the U.K. box office during its first day of release on Thursday, earning more than any other film in the James Bond franchise, reports Reuters.
The 21st 007 installment, which marks the debut of Daniel Craig, sold 1.7 million pounds ($3.2 million) worth of tickets, a 54 percent increase over comparable sales for the previous Bond film and first-day record-holder, 2002's Die Another Day.
In all, two-thirds of all movie tickets sold in Britain were for Casino Royale.

As a founder of the thread, and as I just returned form the cinema..here are my thoughts.
After reading so many articles about the nem 007 film, I was goin to see it with a bit of..let's call it concern...would it be any good..would it make me happy as big Bond fan as every single one BOnd did before...would Craig make it.?????
No..after the screeining one word comes to my mind...SUPERB !!!!
The 21st double-o-seven is great film by any means.
The bigest concern of all JB fans, the new 007-Daniel Craig done a superb job...he is a great BOND..surly one of the 3 best in the series history. he is storng, confident, good-looking (although i'm not to judge) but in the same time very human, natural..and what's most importnat- convincing.
All the other characters are also top-notch....The Villan, The Girls ( I liked Solonge more) even the supporting cast is good.
Many reviews of "Casino Royale" speaked about luck of gadgets....well I think that maybe not as SF-toys, but there still is typical Bond stuff in it......stuning cars ( I loved the silver AM DB5), guns, computers, even some fancy medical stuff
...perfect.
The new Agent Bond is much more darker, bloodier, more violent thet any of the 20 before...but it still is James Bond at his best...i still had a sense of watching another one of the great 007 saga. It's different than any other, but it is still good-old-new James..drinking vodka martini, driving AM....picking up ladys....and in the same time he gained the new quality...what makes the series reborn and much more alive
.
And James Bond will return....can't wait already
To sum up I use the one word I love the most in all English....SPLENDID !!!!!!!
Greatings

I really did enjoy the film. Was a bit dubious about Daniel Craig when they announced it, but wanted to give him the chance. When all the nay-sayers appeared, I stuck my neck out and supported him in every conversation just out of spite for them. Thank god that paid off or I'd have lots of phone calls of "I told you so"!
I thought the set pieces stole the show - magic. Exactly wat a 21st Century Bond film should be.

I loved this movie, Daniel Craig was great as Bond, much better than expected. I'm glad the humour was kept and I didn't miss the gadgets as much as I had expected too. I liked the more serious tone to the movie and loved the action sequences.
I saw it 4 days ago and absolutely loved it. The action scenes are amazing(especially the 10-minute on foot chase through madagascar) and the new theme rocks.
Chris Cornell is amazing. Rage Against the Machine is amazing. Someone please tell me how the f**k Audioslave blows ass!?
Oh.... and Casino Royale was the best Bond film ever.
