Charlton Heston has died at the age of 84 One of the few actors left from the massive bible epic period has died. RIP Chuck.

He hates every Ape he sees, from Chimpan-A to Chimpan-Z, wait wrong Taylor. But seriously from the few movies of his I seen the man did have a great screen presence.

I have seldom known an actor about whom I have had such mixed feelings.  I believe that he'd have been a lot nicer to meet or know than many actors whose work I admire more.  All the while, his political views were strangely mixed and, in many areas, appalling.  Although he once took a public stand against racial discrimination, his views on firearms and foreign policy could be really scary.  Comedian, Mort Sahl once commented that Heston was one of a few guys he knew who would actually be pleased if the U.S. government was overthrown in a military coup.
               Still, he seemed to be a really nice, if misguided fellow.  His acting was somewhat limited.  You would see him play scenes in many movies utilizing an approach that was identical to that in many of his previous similar scenes.  Once in a while, he would surprise you, just a little, as in his rather endearing turn in"Will Penny".  Within his limited range, Heston did do some remarkable work.  His Moses was somewhat stiff and stagey, but he captured the sense of some larger-than-life, mythic figure in that role with enormous success.  He also did some very powerful work for William Wyler in"Ben Hur", so good in fact that, when you hear the list of great names who were offered, and turned down the part, you can't imagine that these actors could have fit the part quite as perfectly.
                    I am sorry that Charlton Heston, and much that was magic about his heydey years in the industry, are gone forever.
