I avoided Crash becasue every one I've talked to (who's opinion I value in film) said it was the most placative piece of melodrama they'd seen in years, I'm inclined to beleive them, especially now that it won the Oscar. I guess I should rent it some day to judge on my own, but I really have no interest in it.

Gabe,

Not that you value my opinion, but you should at least give Crash a try.  It was definitely my favorite movie of last year (or at least second favorite as I really liked Walk the Line as well).  Too me it was a big ironic (and sad) that Crash won the Oscar as an Altman-esque film when Altman got an honorary oscar and has never had a best picture winner.

I value your opinion man!

well, for now, this is the first recommendation you've given me....

Maybe I'll have an all night Oscar fest once all these flicks come out on DVD. Munich was the only one I saw.

Brokeback Mountain was just a novelty, at least to me.  We have seen this kind of love story many, many times before.  If it didn't involve homosexuals, no one would even talk about it.  Also, you could really tell that the movie was based on a short story.  There really wasn't enough source material to make a 2+ hour feature.  Once they left Brokeback, I was bored to death.

Crash will go down in history along with Ordinary People and Forrest Gump as the worst films EVER to win the Best Picture Oscar. It is a truly awful, unrealistic and emotionally manipulating film and is about as subtle as a sledgehammer..

Though BBM was not my choice for best film of last year (personally I think Mysterious Skin was THE film of last year) I knew there was no way it would be LET win. Though I thought it was a very good film, it was essentially a remake of Bridges of Madison County with gay men in it. However it is an important film.

I am in total agreement with you about "Crash," however "Ordinary People" and "Forrest Gump" are terrific films.

Hey Gabe,

I don't know whereabouts in the country you are, but Crash is rolling back into theaters, at least for a few weeks.  It is showing here in my tiny Florida town, so I would guess you would be able to catch it in most places.
