Dallas Remake?!! You must be kidding!
I have just read that there is going to be a big screen adaptation of the 80's TV hit "Dallas"!

Lindsay Lohan and Jessica Simpson are jostling for the coveted role of Lucy Ewing Cooper.

Director Robert Luketic (Monster-In Law??) is going to have an A-list cast.

John Travolta and Jennifer Lopez have reported already signed on to play J.R. Ewing and his wife Sue Ellen, while Luke Wilson is line up to play Bobby.

Marcia Cross (Desperate Housewives) has been lined up to play Bobby's wife Pamela.

Shirley Maclaine will play the family matriach Miss Ellie and Bill Murray stepping into the shoes of "Jock" Ewing.

This is absurd! This movie should not be made!! Although it will be funny to watch these mix and match actors/ actresses!

Oh, it's not that bad. I found an interview from Comingsoon.net that Bruce Campbell was interviewed. It read that there will be an Evil Dead remake... like wtf, Hollywood?

I know a movie is going to be made but the final cast is not set.  "Welcome Back Kotter" is being made with "Ice Cube" but that's another story

Is Dallas some sort of hallowed ground that must not be re-made? They've picked worse things to remake. Why not re-make Dallas into a movie? A big fat top heavy cast wallowing around in a big fat top heavy budget. What's not to look forward to? Others to consider for roles. Any roles. Charlie Sheen. Val Kilmer. Jean Claude Van Damme. Jack Nicholson. Wings Hauser. Justin Timberlake. Judy Dench.

The possibilities are endless. Do you see what potential fun this could be?

A big screen version of this night time soap might be fun, but with the exception of Travolta and Maclaine the announced casting is horrible.  In a couple of years the goofballs who are putting this film together are going to wonder why it didn't do better. Simpson would take Lucy in a new direction.  Bill Murray as Jock???  Gimme a break!

I believe that there is already an A-Team movie in preproduction.  No cast attached yet, but there have been rumors that Mr. T could be cast as BA.

I'm not sure who would be able to fill George Peppard's shoes though.

How about this? From IMDb:

Director Robert Luketic has abruptly quit the big screen remake of the hit 1980s TV show Dallas, because he was unhappy with some of the casting choices. The Legally Blonde film-maker was set to start shooting in October And key cast members are still being finalized. Among those actors already on board to play members of the Ewing clan are John Travolta as JR, Jennifer Lopez as Sue Ellen, Luke Wilson as Bobby, and Shirley MacLaine as Miss Ellie. A source tells US magazine People that the director was unhappy with some of the studio's choices for the roles and decided to walk away from the film. No details were given regarding which stars the director objected to. Doctor Dolittle director Betty Thomas is being considered as a possible replacement for Luketic.

I saw the IMDB thing.  Not really a big loss.  It isn't like Robert Luketic is an A list, can't miss director.

If you really wanna get some big-time press for this flick you cast Alec Baldwin as J.R. and Kim Bassinger as Sue Ellen. The free publicity would be staggering. Then you cast John Travolta as Miss Ellie.

Robert Luketic is a smart fella. He can smell a phenomenal failure. After all, I am trying hard to think of a truly successful big screen remake of a television series other than Brian DePalma's "The Untouchables." The track record is a bit more successful for big screen versions of small screen franchises like "Star Trek" or "The X-Files."

The So-So:

Maverick
S.W.A.T.
The Brady Bunch Movie
The Twilight Zone

The So-So Bad:

Bewitched
Lost In Space
The Honeymooners
Beverly Hillbillies
Dukes of Hazzard

I enjoyed the Dukes of Hazzard and even though it wasn't a great movie, I never understood the rancor thrown at Bewitched.  At least, it tried a different approach.
