I know, except for the first part, it IS doing well, it's the only film in this week's domestic box office that's passed the 100 million mark(beating Da Vinci Code, Over the Hedge, Poseidon, and hell, even RV).

Any news on the DVD release?
I went to see this film opening day. I thought the film was very entertaining, and upon an innitial glance, I can't complain about any of the performances, but that might change if I saw it a second time. I really enjoyed this flick.

The money it makes is impressive, but has little to no influence on whether I go see it.  It amazing how they make big headlines on news sometimes.
The critics for the most part are a good judge of technically how good a movie follows the guidelines and acting quality.  However, from what I found is they lack good views on the overall entertainment value.  I also think at times, they don't really review movies when they claim to.  The 1 or 2 thumbs up value from Siskell and Ebert are totally worthless in my opinion.
Mission Impossible Box Office Sales (worldwide earnings):

MI1: $456,494,803 US
MI2: $545,902,5 US
MI3: $231,682,43 US (so far)
Scientology:       500,000 adherents worldwide
DaVinci (Code):  Priceless!

But Mission was out before all of the other ones, so it wasn't competing against them.
Yeah, but that's why it's not doing well... the weeks that follow it's release have other big movies that come out. I doubt X3 will even get first place in the box office next week because of the DaVinci Code.

But Mission was out before all of the other ones, so it wasn't competing against them.  People are sick of Tom Cruise's constant preaching of scientology.  There's nothing wrong with freedom of religion, but people don't like hearing about his all of the time.  Also, Posiedon isn't doing to well, I'd still like to see it in IMAX though.
Went to see it yesterday, and I thought it was great. Granted I haven't read the book but hey.

i enjoyed the book and the movie. this movie is going to earn big $$$$.no matter what the critics say. the critics liked MI3. I thought it was c**p.
I had a friend that always tried to find mistakes in the movie.  Like when someone walks into the next room with a different coat on, or their hair magically dried after they came in from the pool to the house. I never looked for that stuff.  I just like the entertainment.  But I think people that read books they really like, don't even come close to the movie or find it disappointing in comparison.  I have heard this from may book readers.  Another point to realize that the movie has to be a condensed version of the book.  It's impossible to fit many ideas into a standard length movie.  Some things just won't work in a movie.
Why do (some of) you have a need to walk into a movie with a goal of finding something wrong with it.  There's no such thing as a perfect movie, there's always something that someone would change.  I've read the book 3 times, and yes, the movie did have some flaws, but I don't understand why Ron Howard is being bashed.  The movie looked great with the art and architecture.  It was an enjoyable movie, and I'd watch it again.  There's no need to compare literature and film when they are two COMPLETELY different kinds of entertainment.  All I'm trying to say is that the movie was enjoyable, although flawed at some points.  It is not a major disappointment.  Reread the book and tell me if they left out any major exciting action sequences.  They aren't going to bomb the Louvre in the middle of the movie just because it would be exciting in the movie.  They did stay very true to the book, except toned down the "controvertial" material a little, beacause apparently now its okay for books to say what they want, but movies will offend people.
sorry couldn't edit the first one!

I went to see it yesterday at the Odeon, must say a major dissapointment...

My review is here if you can read Thai: Review: The Da Vinci Code

The movie doesn't create enough tension and didn't use the real potential of Tom Hank, Audrey Tautou was sweet but couldn't created much screen impact, only McKellen that I thought had done the job well, he portrayed his character interesting enough...

Ron Howord hmmm...the editing was rather poor and I must say it still stands for me that he's one of the most 'overrated' director at present, the film could have become so much more exiting, drive you on the edge of ur seat type more, but I guess you can't really rely on this guy for a 'real' decent movie...

so disspointed and the book is far more superior!

Since most of the book is placed in the Vatican I don't think the Vatican will say yes for a permission to shoot in their premises..

The movie open at the Cannes Festival and everybody (media) are just pounding on this flick.

It depends on word of mouth.  If the initial viewers of the movie think it is good, it will do well despite the poor reviews.  If, however, the word of mouth is as bad as the reviews, it could tank.
I just finished TDVC yesterday and read the reviews today, and tell the truth, I don't care what critics say either, especially with this type of movie.
i don't give a damn about what critics say......sometimes I have a feeling that most of them don't even know what they are talking about....so for me they are the last source of opinion about any movie.....but ack to your question......i wiil go see it tomorow (on the day of the Polish premier)......i haven't red the book- but I have red Brown's "ANgeles and Demons"and I loved it...so I go and see COD for sure Happy
