cant waitf for the region 1 release announcement
Steelbooks (R2) from Germany

Thanks for that pbtour4il. That seems to be the picture Fox will be using across the board for Region 2 anyway. There is a boxset with all four films on ezydvd.com.au. Site seems to be down at the mo so I can't get the pic for it.

I hope region 1 gets something similar like that. An 8 disc set.

Just hope the German edition has english subtitles for the non-english speaking parts!

Looks like Hong Kong R3 is the first to release the 2 Disc Die Hard 4.0. Yes. it has DTS also.

Thanks Mark, what a dilemma. If I thought it would arrive before it comes out in Ire/UK I would get it. I'm assuming its the Uncut version. Might just take the plunge and buy it. See the Region 2 doesn't seem to have the commentary on it now. Decisions Decisions!!!!

The sweary version isn't that great. A lot of it is really forced and some of it doesn't even sound like Willis. Most of the time you don't see his face or his mouth doesn't appear to move in long shots. There might have been a couple of extra scenes though. Was the line 'hundreds of thousands of people get killed by cars every year, that's just like four more' in the theatrical version?
Oh, it has the 'kill this motherf**ker and get my daughter back' line in it.

Is there anything confirmed as to which version the Bluray is getting?
That's what i'm wondering as well. I don't think i'll be buying it if it's not the unrated version. I don't feel like buying the unrated version on DVD either so i don't know what i'll do.
It sucks if they've decided to only release the PG-13 version on blu-ray.
The website i usually order DVDs/HD DVDs/BDs from even have two versions of the unrated version on DVD listed:
Quote: Live Free Or Die Hard (Widescreen/ Unrated Version/ Collector's Edition/ 2-Disc) (DVD)
Live Free Or Die Hard (Widescreen/ Unrated Version/ Special Edition) (DVD)

Best buy will have a steelbook version of the black and white cover.
I noticed something odd about the UK disc today. There are no subtitles during the French dialogue sequences, unless you turn the English subtitle stream on. Of course, this subtitles all of the dialogue. I hope they caught that before the retail discs were pressed.
Got my Uncut version today, that subtitles problem is still present Chris. Whats more odd is that when you turn the subtitles on, all it says during the French dialogue is "Speaks French"!!! Really enjoyed this cut though, I think it somewhat rectifies the Cut version, I just hope if there is a DH5 that we don't get this situation again, but I doubt it.
I think Fox might have a reissue on their hands. What a total balls up they've made of this release... I'm going to try and get a statement from Fox.
The R3 DVD has the subtitles for the French dialogue and they are thankfully burned in. The R3 is the PG-13 cut but that doesnt bother me as I wanted to get both versions (I'll get the single disc R1 in November). It also has the commentary which some have said is not on the UK DVD. I went for the 8-disc R3 quadrilogy for under £30:

I hate how that word - quadrilogy - has become acceptable for all DVD releases now. It doesn't bloody exist! Why couldn't they have used tetralogy?
i bought the 2 disc ultimate action edit on 29th but was surprised to see it was different from the cinema version. Although it is much better in respect to the language that was obviously edited out in the cinema version. I noticed they removed the "i was out of bullets"line after the helicopter crash, which was dissaponting and also near the end of the movie where trey is told to visit gabriel and consequently the rest fo the team are killed, that scene isnt there. I thought id bought the wrong dvd and have been looking forward to it for sooooooo long but would recommend the silver packaged dvd althought the special features could have been better. There is a bruce willis interview with kevin smith and the guyz nite feature is quite funny. iv had the same problem with the subtitiles aswell, annoying!!
Does anyone have the coughquadrilogycough on BluRay yet?

That scene you mention, when he is told to to go (he packs up his stuff/laptop and leaves, is there in the 'rude' cut. Is that the scene you were meaning or was there another scene after that when he actually visits with Gabriel? I saw the theatrical back in May/June but I can't remember.
It says something of the movie that you can't really remember much of it beyond the helicopter stunt. The film was okay though. It seemed to flow better and benefit the film as an 'uncut' edit in the same way that it did with DH2. A shame they cocked up with no BD release though. All the BD distributors are giving me reason not to buy at the moment.
300. No real benefit to getting HD due to the excessive processing of the image.
Spiderman 3. The film, despite being watchable was a below average pudding of a film and not worth (for me anyway) repeat viewings in HD or any other format.
And now Die Hard 4. Can't even buy my preferred cut because 'the extended HD master wasn't ready in time'. If you believe that as the reason. Fine it's not ready. Release it in a month then. Nah, the DVD looks fine.

I think 300 will definitely benefit from the HD treatment. I don't have my copy yet, but the SD DVD up-converted to 1080p is just too grainy. Up-converting players can do wonders, but there are limitations to what they can do in transforming 480/576 line images all the way to Full HD.
Hi Chris.
I'm not saying 300 doesn't and won't look better in HD, I just can't justify the extra dosh for what would be a marginal improvement. I did see 300 digitally at the cinema and it was buzzing with (intentional) noise onscreen. From what I've seen of the SD DVD, it's a fair representation of that, in a home environment on a 37" 1080 LCD. In short it comes down to software cost again.
I've got the similar dilemma today with the release of the Ocean's trilogy. I'd love to get them on BD but it's such an additional outlay. Plus, if I just bought 13 on BD then the SD DVD collection would be incomplete only having 11 & 12 on DVD.
AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!! This C*cking Format War.

I agree, it's all about perceived benefit. That's been my stance all along (with both hardware and software). I certainly can't afford to upgrade all of my DVDs, nor do I want to. There will be certain titles that I will go for (Star Wars obviously), and of course I'll probably be buying more high-def than anything else from now on. Luckily I'm in the process of buying an HD DVD player to go with the BD player, and 300 comes free with that so I'll have a copy that doesn't look like a mess of digital grain has invaded my screen.
I'm looking forward to comparing the two formats because, to tell you the truth, I haven't been that impressed with BD's interactive features so far. Too buggy and the software takes an eternity to load.

I don't personally get all this interactive bobbins. From what I've read I can only ever see it as a marketing gimmick. I think I've detailed some of my rant on the subject elsewhere (can't rememeber which thread) but from what I've seen first hand on the Pirates BD's (Liar's Dice) it works fine but to what end. It's tedious. A lot of effort (not to mention sound and fury from Disney) has brought this feature to us and it has about 2 minutes of playability. It's tonk. Much like all other DVD games. It's repetative and you can exhaust it pretty quickly.
The other interactive features HD-DVD are offering. Meh. Bookmark your favourites scenes and share them with your friends. Anyone caught doing that has no friends. Just virtual one's I suspect. Buy stuff online that you see's onscreen by clicking on it. 'I'll have Heather Graham and King Kong then. What do you mean it's £9.95 p&p plus customs handling charge'. Well well well. The world is truly on it's way to that warm place in a hand basket. WE NEED NEVER LEAVE THE HOUSE AGAIN! WHOO HOO!
Is it cos I is 37? Perhaps.
And where is that Die Hard review man? I went and bought the thing already. If you're gonna say it's c**p I shall be beside myself. Just over there

They didn't send us a complete version so we couldn't review it. All we got was disc one of the all-swearing edition, and that has missing subtitles for the French dialogue (an error that made it onto the retail discs).

Hi guys,
For those who have bought the 2 Disc Unrated Edition from the U.S. can anyone tell me why the back of the cover DOES NOT mention DTS audio?? I saw the DVD today in store and was surprised when it does not say the movie has DTS audio, only Dolby Digital. Is there some kind of printing error, or the DVD does not contain DTS? Let me know please, so I can decide whether to buy this or not.
