We can't get Song of the South, but we can yet another release of Lady and the Tramp II.
Then if Disney isn't gonna give us this DVD.... the bootleggers will flourish yet again

I do not know why Disney Treats "song of the South" like its a step-child. Warner holds (and MGM when it owned it) up "Gone With The Wind" with pride nobody seems to be upset about that?
Only because this is totally on topic, and may help advance some people knowledge of this film, here is an address you can clicky to see some information about this film and it's jorney from original release to rerelease to VHS to possible DVD,aand all types of tidbits of information about the film, incase you are not aware of it: http://www.songofthesouth.net/home.html
If I should not have posted another website's address, please forgive, for I know not what I do!!!

Yes I went to a friends house and they played it for me they said they got it on e-bay. I tried a couple of times to buy one but I'm always out bid. I thought the dvd would have poor picture but I was very surprised.
This seems to be the year of bringing back classic movies on DVD. "Lady and the Tramp" "Little Mermaid" A Richard Donner Version of "Superman II", A Special Edition of "Twin Peaks Fire Walk with Me" with the much WANTED DELETED FOOTAGE is rumored to be coming out in 2007 as well as "Blade Runner" the Ultimate Cut in 2007. So maybe "Song of The South" might just be released after all.
for anyone in uk, Song of the south is on BBC2 now. Missed start though

Sounds like a dupe of the old laserdisc which I think came out in Japan. Either way, on real DVD it would prob be remastered and look even better

I'm really dying to see this. DAMN YOU ROGER EBERT!
There are lots of negative images of gays & lesbians in movies but those movies always come on DVD. I think Diney should release the movie and (as another person n this post has said) have African-Americans tell us why the movie is a negative portrait. I don't blame African-Americans for not liking the movie. I just think we can use "The SOng of the South" DVD as a tool on why this images are hurtful.

Bad analogy. Gays and lesbians are not as well though of in political circles.
There are many movies with negative portrayals of blacks, especially from the early years of Hollywood (think Birth of a Nation). These movies have made their way to DVD. I don't know why Song of the South hasn't. If Disney is going to use it as a ride at Disney World, why can't they offer the movie!

Well maybe one day we might get a release!
Not EXACTLY on topic, but still relevant...
Were the scenes of Sunflower (The Centaur) destroyed for "Fantasia"? And if not, would they be put back or would it suffer from SotS syndrome? Also, are there any dates for Fanatasia to be released any time soon (and "2000")?

Nope. If you reallllly want to get it, you have to buy a copy of the Fantasia Anthology box that came out briefly a few years ago. It's going for like $120 on eBay I think

I'll wait it out, it's bound to be released sooner or later.
