And has the man never heard of vinyl? Loads of people still buy that over CDs/DVD-A. We'll all be flying around in rocket cars next.
There's also a lot of commoditiy fetishism attached to DVDs.  Why else would we care so much about our packaging, the cover art, and keeping our collections immaculate?
DVDs are the embodiment of frenzied consumerism!
