DVDActive.com Sneak Peak
Hey

Just to keep everyone vaguely interested in the new site (and to prove it really is arriving soon!), here's a little sneak peak at one of the new DVDActive review pages. As you can see, screenshots are a lot bigger this time around. 565 pixels wide to be exact, oppose to the 435 width on the current site. News articles (covers, menus etc) will also be boosted to this size where possible. You may also note the addition of awards for reviews etc Anyway - constructive feedback is welcome as always!

It's the new look DVDAnswers Nicola. It'll have the same content, just with a new name and a new look.

Just a quick question, Tom, will there be any new features added on to the website and what can we expect of this?

Well, the site's starting to get quite popular now, and we feel DVDActive is a much more marketable name than Answers. DVDAnswers sounds more like a FAQ or something. It's quite a big risk changing the name after all this time obviously - but we feel it's a risk worth taking.

As for new features - initially there won't be too many major additions. We're planning on adding private messaging etc although that won't be available in the initial upgrade. I do think this will be a big improvement though personally. As you can hopefully tell from the screenshots above - the site is a much more colourful, welcoming place to be. I've always thought this current layout to be a bit too formal.

The thing that will strike most people (we hope) is the increased size of the images and the improved layout. The new features will come online as and when Mal has the time I guess. A lot of the work that has been done is 'behind the scenes', but it'll make our life a lot easier.

Private Messaging, that's what I asked for! It's really good for fans to connect with each other privately and openly.

Good job guys. I'm hoping that the forums will look like actual forums. Wink

Btw, I'm pretty good with Photoshop so just let me know if you need help with any banners or anything.

I think Tom already has that job under control Wink As for when it'll be online...when it's ready. We were aiming for an October 1st launch, but there's no point in making it live if it's not up to our high standards.

Right, just bumping this as we should be launching this week! Probably Wednesday or Thursday. Don't go getting too excited though, as it won't really boast many new features initially - probably less if anything Wink However, we'll be making further improvements and additions over the coming weeks.

It should however look much more inviting than our current setup, so we're pretty excited about the change. So basically, if the site disappears for long periods over the next couple of days - don't worry! Leave that to us Wink Hehe

Does anyone have a specific date when the site will be up?
It's already almost mid November right now.

What was the TVTome disaster then?

tvtome.com/tv.com updated their site and made it needlessly complicated and un-user friendly. DVDActive.com is a complete 180 of that; the guys have done a great job in creating the new site and improving on DVDAnswers.com overall. I think most people will love the new design and layout.

The guy behind TVTome was contacted one day by CNET who wanted something to fill tv.com. A few months later they ended up purchasing it, changed the layout, did stuff to the content, covered it in adverts and annoyed the viewers. Basically the viewers weren't used to stuff like interstitial adverts like you get on commercial entertainment sites like IGN or Gamespot.

Yah, it was a disaster, but we all know that won't happen with DVDActive. These guys are great and know how to make a good site. I CANNOT wait for the site to open, and am very glad it is this week, even if it will be almost feature-less. It looks great. You guys seem to have done a very good job with it. Very Happy
