Enter the Void - Groundbreaking Cinema I've read a lot about ETV since watching it earlier this week. The film provoked a polarized response from its audiences - at least from what I have read. I find that really interesting. It reminds me of a quote I read in response to Martin Scorcese's Shutter Island:

"If Martin Scorsese weren't aware of himself as a great filmmaker, he could never have made a movie as bad as Shutter Island."

Let me just say that I am one who responded favorably to ETV. I thought the film was excellent - the best film I have seen in recent years. Certainly the most visually striking film I have ever watched. I say that without hesitation. Gaspar Noe is an artist through and through. And a ballsy one at that. At the very least, you have to respect him for an attempt at greatness. And further, you have to give him credit (in my eyes) for the groundbreaking cinematography achieved in the film. I was enthralled by the entire film.    

It seems to me that with Enter The Void, Gaspar Noe made a leap towards greatness. And if you reference interviews with Noe, you find this to be true. He's trying to do something no one has ever done before. Some were appalled by the ultimate product of that leap, while some were mesmerized. Only a filmmaker as genius as Gaspar Noe could evoke that sort of polarized response with a film.

All that said, I would advise everyone to see Enter The Void.
