Expect New Star Wars announcement soon
I have been reading rumors about a new Star Wars movie currently in the works by George Lucas. What do you think?

Here's a recent article in commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of Star Wars.

Quote: New Star Wars film 'on cards'

Article from: Daily Telegraph Sydney

STAR WARS fans will sense a disturbance in the force amid rampant rumours that a new movie set before the prequels is to be announced in LA tomorrow.

The news of the "huge" announcement by Star Wars creator George Lucas comes on the 30th anniversary of the first film.

Chris Brennan, a member of Star Walking Inc - the Australian Star Wars appreciation society, is in LA for the offcial convention Celebration IV at the Los Angeles Covention Centre.

He said the rumours sweeping the venue is that Lucas will announce a new Star Wars movie is in the works.

Reports have been circling among fans and on the internet of a new Star Wars movie or movies set before the recent prequels at the time of Old Republic when the Jedi regained control of the galaxy from the Dark Lords of the Sith.

"He did make a slip in an interview a couple of weeks ago and say something about a forthcoming movie,'' Brennan said.

"The reporter went back to him and said `did you say movie?'

"George said no he didn't say that and tried to cover it up.''

Lucas has already confirmed a Star Wars live action TV series will be filmed in Australia from next year and will be set between the recent Episode III and the original 1977 Star Wars film which is Episode IV.

Despite opening in just 32 US theatres (Spiderman 3 recently premiered in 4324 US theatres) across the US on May 25, 1977 it went on to be the second highest grossing film all time behind Titanic.

Australian actors Bruce Spence who appeared in Episode III as Tion Medon as well as Zac Jensen, who played Jedi knight Kit Fitso in Episodes II and III, will be special guests at Celebration IV which will attract more than 60,000 fans, many in the costume of their favourite character.

They will join other cast members from all six films including Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), Anthony Daniels (C3P0) and Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian) at the convention.
Brennan says LA has been caught up in Star Wars fever.

"Just walking down the street here every second person is a Star Wars fan,'' he said.

"It's a big feeling of brotherhood and sisterhood.''

When asked why he was such a big Star Wars fan Brennan said: "It all comes down to the escapism. People can sit down and start watching Star Wars, any of the films, and get totally absorbed and get transported to a galaxy far, far away.''

Star Walking Inc is organising its own convention to mark the 30th anniversary of the Star Wars premiere in Australian on the 21-22nd October in Melbourne.

They're only supposed to be two one-hour TV movies from what I've heard.

I doubt Lucas will make another Star Wars film a la I-VI. And if he did, I think even die-hards like myself would cry out a hearty G.O.B. "Come on!"

Perhaps he could, you know, direct something that isn't f**king Star Wars!

I'm just giddy over the new Lego Star Wars game planned for later this year myself. Those games rule.

I read about it a few days ago, but for the life of me I can't find the link where I read it at right now. Supposedly it'll cover all six films and have somewhere in the neighborhood of 160 playable characters. It'll be available on the XBOX 360, PS3, and Wii. I'm sure Lucasarts will make some sort of official announcement over the weekend about it.

Ah, wait a minute...not the link I was looking for, but official coverage from Lucasarts' site...

Sounds more like a revamped version of the first two games with additional content, but still, I'm all over it.

I bet you $10 that it coincides with some sort of DVD release too...say the 'The Complete Saga' Collection?

New Lego game good, new Star Wars Prequel MAYBE good... maybe give Spielberg his shot this time!  Anyway, as long as there is a decent script and some judicious editing this time, if it's true...  Just hope there's time for another John William's score if so.

I wish he'd left the directing of Star Wars to others... There's a reason that Empire is the best movie of the lot!

How are you going to do that?  None of the timing is right.  Do they have the plans for 18 years or are you going to go 18 years into the future to show it?

Nope, but I'll bet dollars to donuts that the new Lego Star Wars game coming out this fall is a tie-in for something along those lines seeing as it's called Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga. And I'll also bet that an announcement on it is made in the near future, so keep watching the skies.

I'll probably get it for the PS3, but will probably rent the Wii version. The thing I've found with most Wii games I've played is that after a while the whole motion thing wears thin and I keep pining for a more traditional, control pad way to play those games.

Is there no end to this!!! I will be watching the TV series and probably the cartoon but it never seems to end! I always wonder to my self that everything after ROJ has tarnished the OT or the opposite that with the PT and those horrible ewok movies the droids and ewok cartoons etc the OT looks better and better with every passing year? Lego Star Wars on the Wii will be cool for the kids! Not holding my breath on an announcement this weekend on the ultimate edition of the films as I will be a dead man! Expect tho an announcement of the steelbooks of each of the 6 films very soon with nothing new added to them at all!!!!Lol.

Been hearing from a couple of friends attending Comic-Con that Lucasfilm is going to make some sort of DVD announcement sometime over the weekend. Don't know how much of that is true, but I'm willing to bet that with the new video game 'Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga' coming out this fall it's some sort of boxset with all six films. If nothing else, Lucasfilm likes to cross promote stuff like nobody's business.

I read that RM said that they were holding off on the next-gen formats until the creators 'sort their act out'. Could be that it'll be available as a hi-def download rather than on physical media. At least that's what I read.

Yeah I read that too, something to the effect that they weren't goig to release anything on hi-def until one format was clearly by all accounts the dominant one and that if that didn't happen in soon (what exactly he meant by soon is anyone's guess) that they'd bypass both formats altogether and offer them for download only. Personally I think that would be a mistake but that's another issue for another day.

I'm not expecting a hi-def announcement, but I don't think a standard DVD announcement concerning the movies is that big of a reach. Guess we'll see sometime between now and Sunday whether or not there's any truth to the rumors pertaining to that.

Unless they do something like the Superman set I'm not interested. You need to have multiple versions of the films (all bloody anamorphic), cast commentaries (not the boring ones from the existing releases), deleted scenes, documentaries... shed loads really. They also need to remaster the whole damn lot so they look decent. The 2004 release was botched and TPM looks like c**p compared to all of the others.

Yeah I think for me to buy all six I woul dhave to agree with Chris - like the superman or even the Martix set - a good collectors item with more extras than I can eat. Maybe even bang the clone wars cartoons in there too Wink

I wouldn't even say no to a nice shiny collectors toy with it too.

We all know its coming, we just have to wait a year or two....The re-re-release of the trilogy just came out early this year so we have to wait for them to go out of print which will probably be in 08' and then I am sure we will hear of something in 08'-09' (which is when the TV series is coming out so it will be perfect for them).

I can see Ol' Georgey Boy doing a pre-prequel. Jedi vs. Sith--and everyone crackin' on it will go see it.
