I guess I misunderstood what happened to MGM. I thought MGM had cease to be a separate company.
Seperate compnay but still owned by "Sony". I wandering if "Sony" is trying to sell of MGM? I bet they will after the next format war (HD-DVD vs. Blu-ray DVD) is over.
Well, they aren't entirely owned by Sony. There are some investmenet firms involved. I believe Sony's stake is only around 20-30%. Didn't Sony really only want MGM to capture the rights to James Bond, Pink Panther, etc.
It was a venture capital purchase, one of the group being Sony.
Personally I think Sony's only interest was to attempt to control the future HD disc format. Their ownership of hollywood studios is what's still keeping the UMD movie format somewhat alive.
Edit: I bet this will have some effect on the MGM Blu-ray release dates if they are now going to be handled by Fox.
