The U.S. does have steelbook editions. Happy

Edit : Sorry made a mistake, misread Nics quote! Do apologise. The U.S. Fight Club steelbook is a C.E.
As I stated in other threads, I need to get a damn Region-Free player, these releases are ridiculously cool...

I have not but they look so cool
Now Region 4 has followed the U.K. with those Definitive Editions.

Here is a full list of titles slated for release on August 1st, courtesy of www.ezydvd.com.au

Fox are releasing a steelbook of Robocop "20th Anniversary Edition" soon with both cuts of the film and all the special features of the Criterion and the R2 SE plus three new featurettes. The art ain't great! So I see no need to triple dip! It is a R1 release so I am not sure if it will be released on R2!

Ah, but the prices that you can pick them up for ARE good! HMV are still selling the old vanilla Mr & Mrs Smith for £7.99 and the 4 disc Kingdom of Heaven set for £24.99. I got both of the definitive editions for £8.99 each in what is definitely superior packaging.
These "definitive editions" are sloppy at best! Apart from Fight Club and Mr and Mrs Smith there is nothing new on them! They are just transferring what was on the old editions on to these new "definitive editions"! Fox are so sloppy they have even transferred the "first look" at I Robot from the old se of Master and Commander on to the new steel book! There are no new special features on the classic titles like Great Escape! I am pretty sure that there are less special features on these that the old standard se's! I could be wrong though! The cinema reserve titles are excellent though! Midnight Cowboy coming in July. Now I hope Fox do the same with Grapes of Wrath, Gentleman's Agreement, How Green Is My Valley and Diary Of Anne Frank. I also hope Fox do the same with the vast MGM back catalogue as well.
I've got The Terminator and liked the presentation and I've since ordered Mr & Mrs Smith (2 disc directors cut) and Kingdom of Heaven (4 disc directors cut) for £8.99 each from HMV's website.

Bargain!!
Incredibly complete Wink

Think hard, concentrate... How's the "Blade Runner" set?

I think the US is going to have the steelbook editions released soon. Search steelbook on DvdAf and you'll see the upcoming releases.

I'm not totally sure, but I think FOX tried these versions over on this side of the pond before, minus the tins about 2 years ago with all of the older titles. Obviously it must have taken off in the UK if there are newer titles out now too.

Wow thats surprising. The R1 version of the movie had one of the best standard def transfers I've ever seen.
It's uncut, has a new transfer, fixes some audio glitches, and has more extras. Apart from that... Wink
Fight club isn't really any different. The run time is the same
I am not impressed with this from Fox at all! This is all to do with them having got MGM recently. They seem to be releasing them in these steel packages. The problem I have is that apart from Fight Club there doesnt seem to be anything new on these new "definitive editions" from the old se's they brought out on Fox or MGM! Why cant we have "definitive editions" of stuff like Midnight Cowboy? Is this all a triple or quadruple dip?
As i'm a Ridley Scott fanatic i'll definitely be getting the Alien and Kingdom of Heaven DVDs. Will these have new extras etc.?
The US aren't getting steelbook definitve editions.
Hiya, I was wondering if the US will get Kindom of Heaven Def Ed before the UK does. The video quality in KOH Director's Cut was lower than the other versions. I hope this Def Edition has better picture quality. If anyone is buying it, could you update on this? Cheers.
Now thats the way you do DVD covers. I will be picking up the Kingdom of Heaven 4 disc. Haven't picked it up yet and this is the way to go!
I picked up The Terminator. The audio/visual aspect of this disc is extremely good. Whether the entire range will be like this across the board is open for debate. I love the artwork on that League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, simple but effective.
I love those DVD covers. Nice! Wonder if they will be released in Australia, since it's PAL, as well?
I've just dug out my old Terminator SE and the discs have that misty look all over them (Coulnd't be arsed to phone up for replacements), though now they've gone crusty too! So will definetly be getting Terminator.
This is similar to Cinema Reserve, only I think that CR is much more superior..
Hmmm...is this Fox's answer to superbit? Or is it just marketing gone bad?

Well annoyed. I bought the Rocky def edition just over a month ago now it's been re-re-re-re-re-released in the steelbook. Hrrrrrrrmpf
Hey, if you buy into it... Wink Oh, and I dunno. Fox never even made the artwork available for these.

Someone on another forum is claiming that the new version of Fight Club sounds much better than the old R1/R2 (and presumably other regions). This, he says, is because the old discs had audio errors and 'dropouts'. I never noticed any, and the audio-visual elements got universally favourable reviews when it came out, so I don't know how true it is. Not gonna buy it again to find out.

Just checked my old R1 of Fight Club and while the 2.0 Surround track is okay, the 5.1 track definitely has some audio dropouts. Not total silence, but the volume is messed up during Operation Latte Thunder (for example).

Has anyone bought any of them?
I was looking at them in HMV today and most do have DTS (BOOYEAH!). So was wondering what the difference was between them and the special/ultimate editions previously released. (Except the drop dead gorgeous steelbook cases they come in.)

Is there a difference in picture quality?
Are there any more extras?
Will Chris b***h about how <nerd voice> DTS isn't technically any better it's only louder and the 1.21 jigawatts needed to blah blah ?</nerd voice>

So yer are they better than the old versions or not?
