Yeah, despite anyone's personal feelings on the film or its occasionally weak plot, Private Ryan changed the look of war films forever. I agree with your 5 year break assertion.
Flags wasn't so much 'Ryan' Lite as it was 'Ryan' Heavy going.

All very worth and I'm sure everyone was doing a grand job but unless someone's got a new angle on the war film (3 Kings for instance) then it needs to take a break for at least 5 years.

Or in 10 years they'll give him the LAA.

I'm willing to bet there was more than just a little ghost directing in that case.
It was nice to see Marty wins, always nice. It's a shame for Leo yet again to only fall behind, but his time will come. This year it seems to be a clean sweep for Whitaker and Helen Mirren.

Happy for miss Blunt as well, saw her first in My Summer of Love and thought she had great potential, although I hardly imagined at that time; that she would become a double-nominee at the Globe so soon.

Maryl Streep's speech rocks! It was clearly the best speech of the night, thought provoking and yet funny! and well Sacha Baron Cohen, how funny can this guy gets!!

Althought, on the down side HFP yet again overlooked Naomi Watts, she deserved better...and probably the worst thing on the night was Maria Menounos, asking America Ferreira what she felt for not being considered as the first choice right after her winning the award? not a very smart thing to do eh!

It sucks that Eastwood, an American director, won in the Best Foreign Language film category. Del Toro deserved to win that Best Foreign Lanugage film.
...for what? Making two Steven Spielberg knock-offs?
I thought Clint Eastwood should of won best director.
Pan's got robbed. Babel deserved the win as did Forest for LKOS. I was also happy for Sacha.
Golden Globes
Babel for best drama? Well, Blood Diamond wasn't even nominated, so it didn't have a chance I guess, but even The Departed is better than Babel, c**ppy ending and all.

No globe for Leo? Come on! He should've won for Blood Diamond.

I also really hoped Pan's Labyrinth would win for foreing language film. Sad

What is this?

At least Sacha Baron Cohen got one! And Helen Mirren!! She got pretty much every award she was nominated for.
