Hostage was worth a rent, I liked it. I haven't seen a Polish film though.

HOSTAGE was very good, I'd buy it. However, if you read the book (like me), you may be a little disappointed (although I didn't care), because they change a lot of stuff in the movie.

And, sorry, no, I haven't seen any Polish movies. I've only seen 1 foregin movie, and it was French ("HIGH TENSION" - very good).

I wouldn't really count Polanski as a Polish film makers since he didn't make any features in Poland.  His first features were in England before moving to Hollywood and then exhile in France.

I haven't really heard of any Polish cinema besides Andrzej Wajda.  I don't think that is uncommon for the predominately English/American audience on this forum.

Why wouldn't you count Polanski as a Pole..he was rised in Poland his parents were Poles..he has Polish citizenship..he is Polish..so I think it makes him Polish film maker....and as for the movies he made..The Pianist was shot in Poand.......
and as for the Poles..i'm sure you know Slawomir Idziak or Janusz Kaminski

Well, if we're counting Polanski's early work, then I've seen about 3 Polish films that I can think of...I've seen a lot of movies though, and often I just remeber them "not being in English" rather than a specific language. Was "Tenderness of the Wolves" Polish?

Actually Polanski's mother was Russian.  I never said that I didn't consider him a Pole, just that he doesn't really represent "Polish movies."  Would any of us actually known who Polanski was if he had stayed in Poland?

The only major film I can see that he directed in Poland in Polish was Knife in the Water.

"Tenderness of the Wolves" is in German.

Yeah, I looked it up after I posted. The director's name should've been a givaway: Uli
