Shocking news. We've just beaten Arsenal for the first time in 10 years, but this news has just completely depressed me! Gutting.

I hate to make light of this situation, but is that not the name of his character in Brokeback Mountain?
Seiously, I heard this news a little bit ago, and am a bit shocked. I feel this role would have been so stunningly good, it would have out shined all his other works, now his death will overshadow the whole movie, very much like Brandon Lee's death made The Crow unsettling to watch, because it as god as it was, the death was always in you mind. I wonder what the producers will do, even if the caracter was only ment to be in the first sequal, I am sure they must have thought about possible other marketing places for the Joker. Why so serious, indeed.

Terrible news. He was a great talent with potential to be even better.
this is mere curiosity...but has any deceased actor gone on to win an oscar/bafta/golden globe/award of importance the following year...or at least have been nominated. i know john ritter was nominated after his passing. my curiosity is more MOVIE related.
Oliver Reed for Gladiator.
This is just such shocking news... It's so sad.

My thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and Michelle Williams, to die at such a young age with such a young daughter is very sad indeed.

Wasn't Reed CGI'd in bits of Gladiator? (what with dieing half way through filming or something)
Yes. Tom informs me that those delightful freaks at the Westborough Baptist 'Church' are planning to picket Ledger's funeral. Perhaps a crazed fan will do us all a favour and take 'em out.
Very sad.
Tragic news. I have read today that sources say he had completed ALL his post-production work as the 'Joker' on 'The Dark Knight', but had just started on a project for the ever-unlucky Terry Gilliam...

Yes and so was Brandon Lee in The Crow. Goes to show that such great talent can even reach from beyond the grave.

do you remember where you read that? selfishly...i was hoping that was the case.

Its a shame such a talent is gone forever. I don't think there is anything wrong in wanting to know if Heath had finished his work on The Dark Knight. After watching the teaser trailer I really felt this was going to be a masterful performance, sadly we won't get to see him reprise the role. Here's a link to confirm Heath did complete work on TDK.

it is sad that Heath isn't around anymore. I wanted to see more from him after he played the Joker.
