Just as long as they don't touch Halloween!

I doubt they would do Halloween since they are still making sequels to Halloween.

The lowdown on Halloween is this:

They're planning on doing a part 9 and then going ahead with the remake.  Yes, the Halloween community is up in arms.  With that said, I'm waiting for the Friday the 13th remake due out in October before I pass total judgment.

Remake.  Prequel.  They're all the same to me.  Going back and telling a story prior to the events is a way to cheapen that first movie.

I wouldn't say they've run out.  I'd say they're definitely going back to what worked.  The worst part about it though is that they never remake the truly horrible movies that need a remake.  hah

They're going back to what worked yes, but they need to leave those movies alone.  Friday the 13th doesn't need a prequel.  We know Jason was disfigured and that he drowned due to counselor negligence.  Halloween is a classic that just should not be touched.  It did the job Carpenter set out to do...because to this day I STILL cannot watch that movie when I'm alone, and I only watch it in the daytime.  LOL
(Yeah I'm a wuss.  So what! LOL)
Try breathing some new life (remake)into the lame movies like April Fool's Day, My Bloody Valentine, Funhouse, or Humongous.

They've already remade (or maybe just severly ripped off) My Blood Valentine as the horrific 2001 movie Valentine

I really enjoyed April Fool's Day.  I don't think it could really be "improved."  Here's a novel idea, instead of picking out bad movies to try and remake into better movies, how about trying out some new ideas!  The horror genre is filled with copycats and rip offs, so at least they could give some new spin on the genre.

As I said earlier in the thread, according to a good source at bloody-disgusting.com, the Friday the 13th movie is a remake.  They're even going to cast Pamela Voorhees.  Look for that in October.

Not the most reliabe, but the description from IMDB doesn't sound like either a prequel or a remake:

IMDB:
Ignoring the events of the previous six films in the franchise, this movie picks up twenty four years after Jason Voorhees was thought to have been killed at Crystal Lake. Chris Higgins, the survivor of Jason's rampage, has returned to Crystal Lake with her two children and her psychiatrist in an effort to rid herself of the horrible memories and nightmares she's been living with. But just as she arrives someone else arrives back in town after years of absence - Jason himself. As Crystal Lake's opportunistic mayor ignores the threat of Jason's presence, he plans the High School's annual Homecoming dance at Camp Crystal Lake, hoping to finally end the fear of Jason. But what fear can he end when Jason shows up and creates a hell of a dance. Meanwhile, a government doctor has arrives in town claiming to be Elias Voorhees, Jason's long lost father. Does Elias possess the secrets to the screen's most maniacal mass murderer?

Yeah...the word 'reliable' isn't something I would use to describe IMDB when it comes to news as most of what is entered is highly speculative and just plain wrong in many cases. I'd take that info with a huge grain of salt...

A boulder of salt.  http://www.fridaythe13thfilms.com/

The Friday forum is pretty much the lifeline of the series and that's the webmaster's open letter.

Actually, the original Friday the 13th took place 30-some years after Jason drowned, so if this is the real premise, then yes, it would be considered a prequel.

I don't think it is the real premise.  The film doesn't have a director, a cast, or a script attached to it yet.

Seeing that Michael Bay is producing, I would expect Franchise is right and this will be a remake.

I wouldn't put much stock in what I say either.  I know a few things here and there about the new Halloween movie, but the Friday the 13th stuff is totally out of my realm.  I've been to quite a few websites and would say that 9 times out of 10, they've been right.  They've been right when they said that TCM was going to be remade with Bay as the producer and right on the big rumors for Freddy vs. Jason.  I'd say this is quite good.

No, there is no kidding in that.  There's a lot of news that I wish I could share, but to protect my source, I can't do it.  There's no definite story in the wake of Moustapha Akkad's death, but there is a major player trying to acquire rights to the remake without doing a part 9.

It's quite true.  They haven't actually began casting for it, but it's on the slate for October 13, 2006.  Yes, Friday the 13th.  hah  It's not going to be a true remake of the original in that it will include an adult Jason complete with the hockey mask.  No messing around here evidently.

Actually, from what I read, most people involved with the new Friday the 13th movie agree that there is no way that it will be ready for October.  That is only 6 months away and there is no cast, director, or even a script ready.

Most forget that horror movies are the cheapest to make and generally have a film schedule of a month or a little more than that.  A script can be pounded out quickly if need be.  I'm sure Platinum Dunes has an idea.

Right now, there isn't a script, but at one time there was.  It was actually going to be good.  I know they're still shooting for next year, but that could change at any time.  It may never come out.  Who knows at this point?  There's a good legal thing going on that could help Halloween fans out to see a movie before the end of next year.

The Friday the 13th Movie will come out in October!  No doubt about it! It has already booked in theatres!  Saw 2 stared shooting is May and was out by October!  Saw 3 the same thing so it will be rush job!

How is that a remake? The original had Jason's mum killing everyone and Jason didin't get his hockey mask til part 3. And is it true that that original was made for less than a million dollars?

Cunningham used to make kids stuff and wanted to make some money, so he made a splatter picture.  So, the original was made very cheap and did a ton of business.  And it's a remake because it's restarting the series.
