Strewn around the house mostly, as I have a terrible habit of leaving them out after I've watched them. Failing that I have them in large containers, which are now over capacity. I really don't have anywhere left to store them and I don't like shelves after the house was broken into a few years back and half my collection was stolen because it was in plain sight...
Oddly enough I had a unit almost exactly the same as the one in your pics, except it was filled all the way across the bottom, rather than the top. I had region two on one side, multi-region discs ont he other. The b*****ds nicked all the rare milti-region stuff, including my ltd edition of Manhunter and my T2 Ultimate tin. May they rot in hell.

I have quite a few bookshelves that are overflowing. They also tend to sit onto of the right speaker (which is next to the DVD changer) forever after I've watched them.

That's a photo of my collection
Geez, looks like a nice collection. I have a shelf in my bedroom where I keep all my movies, plus a bottom shelf where I keep boxed sets or over-sized sets (i.e. Titanic Collector's Edition; Pearl Harbor Director's Cut; Sin City SE). But I arrange them by studio, with all parent and subsidary companies together, so that's why I like it when studios keep their logo in the same place on every release (like Warner Bros). But if it's like Paramount, where it's at the top or bottom (and they seem to be sticking to the top from now on), I just align them by logo placement.

I use just plain DVD racks.
A reasonably large 2-shelf bookcase, and a short DVD set of DVD racks. Not that large of a collection, so it pretty much does the trick for now.

Here's a pic of my entertainment center that I took sometime last year, which used to be in my profile page...when I had one.
They're arranged by studio and then genre, which drives everyone I know crazy when they give them a look over, but I know where everyone of my discs are. 75% are in this room, overflowing on two shelving units or strung along the tops of the stereo racks and television, while the other 25% are shelved in either the bedroom or study with a few scattered here and there.

I'll have to take a new picture sometime...I no longer have the larger, original of the one above on my PC.
I have my dvd's housed in two bookshelves. All are seperated into genres - action, comedy (includes romantic comedies), thriller, drama, sci-fi, TV on DVD, and my fave the "DTS" section!! I then divide these by the distributors - Artisan, Buena Vista, Columbia/ Sony Pictures, Dreamworks Home Entertainment, MGM, Miramax, New Line, Paramount, 20th Century Fox, Universal and Warner Bros. That way, it looks like a series from each company. All my DVD's are Region 1.
By the way, how do you post a picture here?? I have one of my collection, taken only a few months ago. My collection currently sits near the 390 range, not including the music dvd's.
Very nice collection Aleks. Where in Australia are you?? I'm in Sydney, like Adam (aka Worst Nightmare). I'm an Alias fan too!
I have just seen the first 6 episodes of Season 5.

You use the [img] tags around the URL pointing to your image.

I'm currently in Adelaide but use to live in Sydney last year
I got Alias Season 4 at Best Buy when I was in Cleveland last month.. other than that I'm up to date with Alias Season 5.
I'm buying less and less Region 4 DVDs though, really p*ssed off with the rating/classifications on the DVD cover art
By the way, maybe 20-30 of those DVDs in my photo were bought at JB Hi-fi's in the Bondi Junction shopping mall
Nothing beats that mall!

This is going to sound stupid. But can someone give me instructions on how to post a picture here?? I don't think I got the message about using the img around the URL??
You need to host the image somewhere first. If you don't have web space then try something like: http://www.imageshack.us or http://www.photobucket.com (I've used neither).
Then once you have the URL of the image, put it within an image tag as in:
Quote: [ img ]the URL[ /img ] (removing the spaces)

Uhm. How are DVD's numbered? I know Criterion's have spine numbers, but most other DVDs don't.

Thanks Mal. Will try it.
Here's finally a few photos of my Home Theatre. Enjoy!

I've decided we are all very sick individuals. Matt, you are seriously anal retentive. That makes me feel good because I don't feel nearly as freakish as I did before ...and your projection T.V. looks like mine. Is that a Hitachi? I have the Hitachi 57TWX20B.
Christ, why do you have a Maid in Manhattan poster? Anyway, how many DVDs do you get in that unit? I need to get something to store mine in, but space is a premium because we only have two large, rectangular rooms downstairs. The three bedrooms upstairs are also packed with a) our bedroom, b) my comp room, and c) the Mrs 'getting ready' room... I think shelves may be the only way for me to go, but I'd need them on every frikkin wall in the comp room...

Hey now, I'm not the one sticking numbers on all my DVDs.
As for the T.V., it's a 65" Mitsubishi; bought it in October of 2004, but off the top of my head I'm unsure of the model number.

I mean do you stick numbers on them.....like the numbers on the list off all your DVDs....like I do (with the yellow stickers)

here is how I used to keep my tiny collection (about 200 DVDs now):

here is how I used to keep my tiny collection (about 200 DVDs now):

Personally, I'm official running out of room. It was my goal to keep all my movies near the TV, but it's getting harder and harder to do. I recently cleaned house and traded in about 15 (including TV sets)DVDs I really didn't need, but then I turned around and used the money to buy more DVDs. Now I have a special shelf for my less disireable DVDs that I can't bring myself to get rid of. My house mate just moved the rest of his stuff in, and I'm unable to accomidate his DVDs in my area.

Personally, I would have never thought to number DVDs. It seems like a lot of extra work instead of just using the alphabet.
C'mon, I'm a BIG fan of Jennifer Lopez, and the movie( I happen to work in a Hotel, too!)
And my dvd's are nothing compared to Matt's!
And my dvd's are nothing compared to Matt's!
i organize my movies by genre then its alphabetical in each genre I have them behind my projector screen its romote control so when you bring it up all my dvds are behind them! I have quite a few last time I counted I think I had 278 dvds! lol my neighbours love it I'm our streets rental place cuz I'm free
!

I can't believe people sort their collection by genre. Personally, I hate genres. I wish Blockbuster would do away with it at their stores. Most movies can fit in more than one genre and it's a pain to look in a bunch of different sections for it, seeing that you can find it directly if everything was together and alphabetized.
My local Blockbuster had the remake of Sabrina in comedies, but the original in drama. What kind of sense does that make?
