...I can't find the Planet of the Apes Ultimate Collection on Best Buys website.  What were they asking for it?  I ordered it off the web for around $125.

I bought the 6 disc "Legacy Collection." It was $36.99 and has all 5 of the original movies plus the "Behind the Planet of the Apes" documentary. All six discs have their own keepcase placed in a nice cardboard sleeve. I already owned the 2-Disc Tim Burton remake and the television series. The animated "Return to the Planet of the Apes" will be released separately and I don't want that hideous "monkey head." I actually saw the "Legacy Collection" at Costco today for just $30.99. Now thats a steal for 6 DVDs. That's a little over $5 a disc.

I love the Monkey Head.  I'm a sucker for packaging like that.  Not to mention it is a limited edition of 10,000.  I wonder if they will sell that many.  It was worth the upgrade though over the previous box set to get all the sequels in anamorphic widescreen.  Probably when you add all the costs up $30 for the legacy, $35 for the Show, $30 for the cartoon, $9 for the Tim Burton film, it really isn't that much of a premium for the monkey head.  I had put off buying the TV series when I heard about the Monkey Head.

Those crafty marketing guys can see the likes of me from miles away. I am one of those obsessive collectors that are willing to pay steep prices for a pretty cardboard package. I've tried to stop but I just can't live with a plain keepcase anymore. Once you start this addiction you just move on to a more expensive high. First it was those fancy slipcovers that in most cases were exact duplicates of what laid beneath the wrapper....Then I moved on to those beautifully rendered digipaks... I shudder to think what might happen if I try to quit cold turkey.

You'd probably have a big problem like I do.  I can't help it, but I have to have the best release and it drives my wife nuts.  She hates me at times.  I love her though.  Until she says no.

Are you my twin? I suffer from the same disorder, its really quite sad and all my friends/family think I am certifiably insane. For instance, I will never buy used dvds. I remember my first slipcover for a dvd was when Spiderman 2 was released, and since then I've been hooked on slipcovers and always try to buy new releases with slipcovers right away before they get all torn up. As much as I don't like the price increase lately for 2 disc editions, I still always shell out the extra cash for them. Whether it be tins, slipcovers, digipacks, monkey heads, whatever, I am a dvd addict. Should we start a club or something maybe? DAA (dvd addict anonymous)?

Okay.....maybe we need to start a 12 step recovery process from DVD packaging addiction.
