Seeing as no one else has mentioned him, Don Davis for his work on the Matrix films.
The only composer I know and love is James Newton Howard, and only for the wrong reason - Romantic Comedies like "My Best Friend's Wedding". I like how the music really matches the tone and the feel of some of the romatic comedies he has composed music for..
Elliot Goldenthal is pretty underrated. his music was the ONLY good thing about "Batman and Robin".
use to love Zimmer but he broke my heart with "Batman Begins". turns out a lot of the stuff was stolen from either his past scores or stole it from composers in his media venture family. the new two note batman theme is stolen from Ramin's two note theme for Blade in "Blade 3" and the training montage music is pretty much a slowed down version of the opening music from "The Island". I didn't mind the "Backdraft" copy pasting that he did in the Batmobile chase since it worked a lot better in the Batman than it did in "Backdraft"
I know every composer borrows from themselves but he just takes it to a ridicoulous level. he's so talented and yet he chooses to write shallow music instead of do something special. and don't even get me started on his countless shadow writers
use to like Horner too till I found out that he stole about 80% of his music from classical and concert composers.

Yeah, I was very unimpressed with the Batman Begins soundtrack.
I'd like to add the late great Jerry Goldsmith to my list for almost everything he has done. (i.e. Star Trek, Rudy, etc.)
Love Danny Elfman, and hats off to Howard Shore for the beautiful epic Lord of the Rings score, which is a story in itself.
Yann Tiersen's beautiful score for Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain is definitely one of the best scores EVER IMO and should NOT be forgotten!
