I stopped buying alot of DVD's and have actually decreased my collection.
3 months ago I had 1,400 DVD's. I sold alot and replaced a small few with BluRays/HD-DVDs, now I'm at 1,012.
And I used to buy every single release, now I only buy the REALLY good ones, or the blockbuster titles in High-Def only.

I never bought every single release (crazy person
), but lately I've cut down only because nowadays an SE is always just a few months away, so why bother buying an already obsolete title? Nothing to do with the pointless "war"...
Haha, not EVERY one. Just most of the things that looked good, or that I'd heard of before.
I ended up owning alot of garbage. I figure quality over quantity was something to aim for here.

I hear from my retailer that one of his customers buys two copies of the blockbusters - one for his DVD collection (kept in the plastic wrappers, etc) and the other for watching. Now that's crazy!!
I'm going to stop buying DVD's NEW in 2008 - I'm going to stick to second hands. TV shows such as "The Love Boat - Season One" coming in March, I will have to buy NEW.

Still buying certain 'standard' DVD titles that are more obscure, because they may take AGES to be put out on High Def, or not at all...and I ain't taking the risk in certain cases.
Also, still buying certain 'standard' DVDs for the superior 'extras' compared to their initial High Def counterparts...for the same reasons as above.
Buyer beware indeed...

Same here. I wouldn't trade say Fear & Loathing Criterion for the bare bones HD-DVD. Given time everything released now will be re-released later. Maybe then we'll see such hard to find raritys as The Phantom Menace in glorious HD

I'm still buying as many DVD's as I ever was. The format war will have no clear winner and even if there is one the industry won't switch.
I'm not even going to bother with either of these two new formats, I'm very happy with standard DVDs. I'm still buying a lot but Ive decided to wait on getting new releases and other sets I want until the prices come down. I recently picked up the 2 disc 300 for under $10, I'm trying to stretch my DVD cash as far as I can.
the question is "Are you not Buying Standard DVD'S now because your waiting to buy them on HD-DVD or Blu-Ray DVD" once that format war has a winner.
I hardly buy any new dvd's anymore. I wait 1-4 months. You can then get The USED DVD cheap on Amazon. I never seem to pay more than $7.

I still buy DVD's, but when a movie I don't own yet that I love is on HD-DVD, I'll buy it. I own 5 titles and they all look great, I noticed the difference immediately.
Other people are going to decide the outcome of the HD battle with their cash, i'm not wasting my money just to be an early adopter.
i'm waiting too see who wins
stanton,
According to Michael 'Transformers' Bay, in today's www.thedigitalbits.com , it'll probably be neither, and 'bribers' Microsoft will inherit the Earth with their 'DOWNLOADS'...

Michael Bay is a choad.
I'll take your word for it Chris...
And anyway, I still haven't forgiven him for 'Pearl Harbour' or for including that 'MY BAD' line in 'Transformers', among other dubious 'creative choices'...

I'll be buying DVDs for a very long time, I still pop in VHS tapes every once and awhile, HD-DVD/Blu-Ray doesn't really appeal to me.
I'm sure if I had a decent TV, a nice HighDef player and a kickass surround system then I would think otherwise, but at this point I have no desire to have obsolete media in a few years...

I probably watch maybe 2 a year, mostly due to my utter laziness of buying the movies on DVD...
And yes I aint frum around hur...
I figured this forum was a GREAT place to get the inside scoop on upcoming and rare special, directors cut, limited, collectors, and box set editions.
I love collecting DVDs...

VHS?!!
Well, to each their own. You know? And everyone at their own pace.
But, why is it that I have a sneaky suspicion that you've also got a large collection of 78s that you just haven't gotten around to replacing with LPs yet? LOL

What is wrong watching movies on VHS? I still owe plenty of movies on VHS myself. There are still plenty of movies currently printed on VHS tapes that haven’t been release on DVD.
