Try a freeware program called DIVXtoDVD; it will convert DIVX/xvid files, and a few other formats, over to MPEG2 and VOB file format easily and fairly quickly. Then all you have to do is burn the DVD Video format files with Nero or whatever authoring/burning software you choose.
You have to first convert the video to mpeg2 at 720x480 (or whatever the PAL standard is), the only program I know that will convert an xvid file is tmpg express, it should also convert the ac3 encoded sound into the same mpeg file, or you could set it to create a separete ac3 file for dvd, but that's harder to deal with later. Use nero only to burn the mpeg2 video you create as dvd-video.

Keep in mind this is no simple task and should take you a frickin long time. Prob a few days to convert the video file alone. Then you'll have to create and design the dvd you want to make, create the vob files using the program you use to design your menu scheme and then you still have to burn it.
i'm trying to burn with nero
another place you could try is afterdark i dont know the exact site but if you google it you will be fine
what programs are you trying to do this with?

Both are good resources for this kind of thing, sounds to me like you don't have the latest XviD codecs.
Problems burning AVI
Hi, I'm having problems burning an AVI. On closer investigation I notice that the video codec is Xvid and the audio codec is MPEG-3. When i try to create a DVD video of the AVIand then play the DVD on a normal player all i get is the standard DVD menu screen and not the menu I have generated. Could it be that the DVD isnt compatible with MPEG-3 or Xvid . What can I do to create a DVD disk that will run.
