Yeah but the PS3 is so much cooler.
It should be noted that an Xbox 360 does all of the above mentioned that the PS3 does, including Xvid and Divx playback.

It also does UPnP network streaming, so if you have a media server on your network with support for UPnP then you can use it to watch video, play music and look at your photo collection. Video support is surprisingly good given that it is Sony, ie DivX and XviD.
But it does make a mean Pork Chop.
It doesn't make very good toast either.

Yep. That's exactly why I bought Region A PS3 - now it can do everything, okay it can't bitstream HD Audio, but I think I'm happy enough with LPCM decoding.

I know that PS3 plays BluRay dvds but does it play standard dvds??
