It should be noted that an Xbox 360 does all of the above mentioned that the PS3 does, including Xvid and Divx playback.

So basically if I want a Pork chop toastie I'm screwed if I don't have a toaster. I'll still get one probably, (game machine/blu-ray player) YAY.

It also does UPnP network streaming, so if you have a media server on your network with support for UPnP then you can use it to watch video, play music and look at your photo collection. Video support is surprisingly good given that it is Sony, ie DivX and XviD.

Yep. That's exactly why I bought Region A PS3 - now it can do everything, okay it can't bitstream HD Audio, but I think I'm happy enough with LPCM decoding.

I was planning to buy Panny BD50 but well that was before DTS-HD MA came to PS3

Isn't the PS3 future proof, something to do with Profiles, 2.0 being the latest. I'm getting a PS3 anyway, for GTA4 but more importantly the Ghostbusters game coming late this year.

BD is backwards compatible with DVD.

I know that PS3 plays BluRay dvds but does it play standard dvds??
