Righteous Kill
Ok, so yesterday I went to the screening of an early cut of the DeNiro-Pacino flick that's coming out i september. Here's the IMDB page if you want a refresher. It sounded amazing before I arrived at the theater. I could not have imagined how terrible this movie is. I have an INCREDIBLY long review I've already written, but simply understand that this is a bomb of EPIC proportions. I just felt that I had the right, nay the Responsability, to warn my fellow DVDActive-ers (or something) to not get as excited about the prospect of DeNiro and Pacino teaming up.

Oh man, am I depressed.

Thanks for that Jersey. It also sounds like it has an interesting supporting cast. Hopefully what you saw being an early cut there might be hope for this film, I think every film fan wants this to be a movie worthy of their talents.

I remember The Score with Brando, DeNiro and Norton. That seemed to disapoint some people too. Well if Righteous Kill is the failure we all hope it isn't we will always have THAT scene from Heat.

I'm looking forward to DeNiro working with Michael Mann again on Frankie Machine, sounds very promising.

And today was such a good day... Thanks for ruining it Jersey! Tongue

I kid. That sucks. I hope to God that they fix it and make it good.

I believe it!  The writer is unknown and the Director did "Mighty Ducks" years ago.

The writer isn't really unknown. Russell Gewirtz delivered a pretty decent script for Inside Man. I agree on Jon Avnet, apart from numerous Tv shows the only film he directed that I thought was decent was Red Corner with Richard Gere.

Yes, showing off is always my prime directive.

But besides that, I was more enraged than anything else. I was just so psyched to see something great and original, but it turned out to be joke. The whole movie is based on a twist (which I won't ruin) that is dumber, more manipulative and more insulting of the audience's intelligence than anything I've ever seen. "The Village" doesn't even come close to this s**t.

So basically, as much as I want to blame the Director and perhaps the egghead Producers, the problem is at script-level. I truly loved 'Inside Man', but Gerwirtz shot himself in the foot with this one. Hell, it even opens up the same way 'Inside Man' did: A shot of DeNiro's character, looking directly into camera, saying "My name is David Fisk..." and then goes on to detail what he has done. Except it is not nearly as clever or well-executed as Spike Lee's 'joint'.

Don't be too quick to slam it. It is an early cut and I bet you they hadn't CGI'd in the whale yet have they?

Good point. Although they were able to digitally reduce DeNiro's man-boobs when he was bangin Carla Gugino (semi-disturbing scene, by the way).

Oh, and a bit of warning to anyone who frequents Aint It Cool News: they posted my full review (I know, not the most reputable/respectable venue, but they're the only place who publishes early user reviews) BUT they didn't 'inviso-text' the big twist that I talk about. I figured they would, but the editor apparently barely read the thing before posting because he referred to me as "her" despite the fact that I talk about how I'm a "Jersey boy" and I went with my girlfriend. So yea... just be forewarned if you're curious.
