Just remembered 'Dead End' from recent years. Stars Ray Wise. Ending has a great twist to it. Anyone else catch this?
I thought it was just ok, but I was very disturbed by the bit where Spoiler the mom start freaking out and grabbing at her head wound. It was all a little over hyped for me, as a person who reads about upcomming horror flicks a lot. The Descent is finnaly coming to US theaters. All horror fans should give it a look. I gave it a 7/10 on my review, but am thinking closer to an 8 after another viewing.
I'm working up a new Filmophobia article for this Halloween. Got some good additions. I finnaly saw Irriversable, which may be the scariest film ever made.

If you want scary, I'll give you some:
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)
The Ring
The Grudge
Darkness Falls
Basically, those are the ONLY movies that gave me nightmares and The Exorcist is just too boring.

I don't really think that there is much of anything that scare the modern audience. We are so jaded and cynical and the real world is scary enough. As Matt said, if you want horror just watch the daily news!

I hear that's what they are going to do. They don't seem to think audiences can understand the whole bit. Lion's Gate is a smart company and could fix this before the release, but I don't see that happening.

The Descent comes out here in a few months. I think it should be successful. I enjoyed it.

Hey Mike... thanks for the explanation of the ending to me.... even though I mentioned the it nowhere, nor did I b***h about it. I actually liked the ending... believe it or not.
I just thought the movie was c**p it didn't explain stuff. It's not like the Phantasm films that leave it open to interpretation.... this film flat out forgets to connect a few dots.

They have around forty minutes of WTF freaky-deaky stuff happening around the town, when NO ONE knows what's happening. Then they do like an eight minute explanation by the little girl who tries to make sense of it all. Shouldn't it have been making sense little by little, all along?
Spoiler well i'll to explain it for you. everything you in silent hill is a result of the burnt girl's nightmares. maybe except for pyramid head whose was created by Alessa's mom. but everything you see from the burnt children to the janitor that spreads VD when he touches the wall is all part of Alessa's nightmares which is why they disappear when daylight comes because her nightmares only come at night. and for the confusing ending that so many people b***h about Rose is still stuck in Alessa's world at the end of the movie because her dark side enters her daughter sharon that's why it's so foggy and why sean bean can't see them. once you've entered silent hill and witnessed all that crazy s**t you can't be let out.
if you really want to fully 100% understand everything in the movie just play Silent Hill 4. they explain almost all the mystery surrounding the games including the true origin of my boy pyramid headThanks for the spoileer... now I'll be able to sleep tonight knowing what happens.

Try watching CNN or any of the other national news channels where you're sure to find something that will scare you--like the guy who was riding around Iowa with his wife's head in the passenger seat who then had a head on collision with a mother and her two children, tragically killing the poor woman and one of her kids. Movies don't scare me anymore either, but it's stuff like this that makes me check the locks before I go to bed at night.
Night of the Living Dead(1968 version, obviously)!
Here's a list of what I'd try:
High Tension
Halloween
A Nightmare on Elm Street
The Devil's Rejects
The Hills Have Eyes

silent hill baby
The first time I saw many of the Halloween films (especially the first), I was scared s**tless.
Gotta watch 'em late at night in a very dark room. Creates a mood.

Evil Dead films.
The thought of an American Pie 5 is kinda scarey.
Difficult one to answer, there's so many types of movies that might be considered scary such at the slow atmospheric ones like the original Ring and Dark Water. The ones that make it difficult to watch like Audition and Hills Have Eyes. The traditional slasher movies with jump-style scares such as Halloween. There's Sci-fi types like Alien, thrillers like Silence of the Lambs and ones to do with state-of-mind like The Shining. Also try Gabe's article:
