I really need to see this soon.
I must say, even as a passing fan of Firefly, with semi-low expectations, I was shocked at how great Serenity. I was expecting a longer episode, but it was a great stand alone film. Those who've never caught the show probably should befor seeing it, at least a few episodes. Fans will be shocked at the brave moves Weadon took with his characters. can't spoil it any further.

Serenity - Full Review

Movie: 9/10
I was able to catch a 9:30 preview last night. As a Firefly fan, I have to say this is better than the show. Great action film. I'm just not saying this because Morena Baccarian's hot. This movie does deliver.
The plot is simple. The captain, Malcolm Reynolds, takes in two new passengers, a young doctor and his sister. The two are fugitives of the ALLIANCE.
To make sure that I was gonna see it last night, I read some reviews on IMDB. Most reviews ranged from 7/10 - 10/10. Even with a low box office amount (10.1 Mil), it is already on IMDb's Top 250 (#149, 8.7).
I would recommend this for fans of Firefly and more work from Joss Whedon.
