Sin City R3 DVD Warning
Just a quick note to anyone thinking of getting the R3 release of Sin City. While there's no denying that the presentation of the set is superior to the R1/R2 releases, the actual disc itself isn't as good.
For a start the menus aren't anywhere near as good, but worse still is the transfer. Instead of the lovely progressive transfer of the R1, we get an interlaced transfer that presents the viewer with shed loads of combing artefacts and the like. If you have a decent set-up (progressive) then get the R1, but I guess if you're not bothered about progressive/interlaced concerns then the R3 is ok.
If I'd known the disc wasn't distributed by Buena Vista themselves I'd have gone for the R1 right off. Panorama Distribution are not known for their progressive transfers. I just got the R1 to replace the R3...
