Single DVDs cover artwork vs 2 Disc Editions? Anyone notice this trend where the single disc dvd has the original artwork from the movie poster while the 2 disc edition has inferior artwork?

Examples are Iron Man, Dark Knight, Step Brothers, and Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull.

Can anyone explain why the studios are doing this?

I would think it would be the other way around where the more expensive version of the dvd would have better artwork.

If they really wanted to sell more of the single disc version, they should only release that first and follow up a few months later with a 2 disc special edition.
But I guess the movie studios respect their customers too much to try such an exploitive ploy.

Meh. I agree somewhat, but it doesn't bother me all that much in all honesty. I DEFINITELY prefer the Indy 1-disc (and Clone Wars for that matter), but  actually like the 2-disc Iron Man artwork over the final theatrical art (I've never been a big fan of floating heads, generally speaking). And I'm very torn on Dark Knight: I love the building poster, but I want the joker art also.

I think it's a matter of personal preference (obviously), and it can vary on a case-by-case basis.

Single disc editions almost always have better covers, but special features are more important than that.

I agree, the 2-disk Iron Man, Dark Knight, Get Smart, & Step Brothers do have good artwork.  However, the 2-disk Dark Knight is good, except for those hearts.  How are those hearts Joker-ish?
