True. I dislike the X-Men movies and Superman Returns for similar reasons, not to keen on Spiderman either. To think of decades of comic books to plunder only to end up with Sub-par scripts. I may be missing something but i always thought the costumes played and important role in the comic books. It defined one superhero from another so whats with the black leather fetish in the X-Men? They all looked the same. looks more like an S&M club to me.
I have no idea. The DVD cover does not even say two disc. So I guess it is for the one disc edition, and I agree, POOR EXTRAS for an action packed third installment.
Poor extras

I always go to the movies alone and last January was the first time I ever had a screening to myself, too bad it wasn't a better movie. I was the only one watching the matinee showing of Employee of the Month at the Dollar Theatre. I would see more movies there but most of the good ones only play there about a week or two but c**p like Little Man stays for months. I might see Spider-man 3 again on the big screen when it hits the cheap theatre but that would depend on what's playing at the time.
All the time. Happens when you go to see subtitled films in a cinema that mostly screens 'Norbit' type films.
I finally watched it last week, before Pirates Of The Caribbean 3 takes over the good screening rooms. I was shocked to find myself and my brother being the only people in the room watching it!! It was a Monday night 9:30 session, when my local Cinema Chain was offering $8 specials to this film only for Cinebuzz members (a club for regular patrons, where they get specials, discounts, tickets to previews, etc)

Has anyone been to a movie screening and found themselves alone in the cinema??
Yeah, for sure. I saw it again a few weeks ago, and I still enjoyed myself, even moreso than the first time. I think when it hits DVD, a lot of people will eat their words and say it wasn't SO bad.

It could've been a lot better, but it was still pretty damned good.
I was expecting to be very disappointed when I saw this, after reading a lot negative comments on the net, but I really enjoyed it. The way people were talking, I was thinking Raimi had made the Spidey version of Superman III or Batman and Robin. This movie is the weakest of the 3 movies but it's still better than most Superhero movies. This movie is to it's series as ROTJ is to the original Star Wars films, it's the Temple of Doom to the Indy series, the Back To The Future, Part II to it's respective trilogy.

I think Raimi and company made the same mistake as the latter Batman films did by having too many villains in one movie. I liked the Sandman more than Venom but Venom had more potention to be a cooler, greater villain in the story. The Sandman's remorse at the end was good but the final fight could have been better. It should have been the 2 villains fighting Spidey at once, instead of a tag team style fight that it was.I liked Harry's storyline and the character scenes with MJ. I loved the section where Peter is under the influence of the black suit, very funny stuff, especially the strut walk. Can't wait for the DVD.
Really not happy about this! Raimi portrays himself as a big Spidey geek but making the Sandman the robber who killed Uncle Ben is just plain wrong! This has nothing to do with the comic books! Rubbish! And what was with that weak as piss tea Aunt May was serving up?

I couldn't concentrate on the movie for a good 5 minutes after she poured that out.

It wasn't so much that it looked like the collected sweat from a marathon runner ball sacks, it was that she then poured milk into it. Man alive Aunt May, I'll pass.
I believe the term is 'screwed the pooch'. I'm seriously trying to think of one genuinely outstanding moment, but I can't. The new villains were two-dimensional and Harry's arch was ruined by that totally lame deus ex machina moment with his butler (of all freakin' people).
AAaarrrggghhhhhh!!!!! I've just seen this. What a complete crock!!

When did the black suit give the provider time travelling powers? Peter puts it on and he's suddenly back in the 70s. I thought that I was watching Austin Powers for a minute.

Venom's in it for all of 10 minutes before getting killed off. I know that Sam Raimi wasn't really in to using Venom but that just took the piss!

Sandman can't make up his mind whether he wants to kill people or not - "Uncle Ben was an accident which I feel really sorry about... I don't really want to kill people... Yeah, random guy that I've never seen before [Venom], I'll help you kill Spiderman and put hundreds of people in danger whilst I do it... Sorry Spiderman, I've changed my mind again and don't want to kill anyone any more" FFS!!!!

With Venom in the movie there were so many classic comic moments that could and SHOULD have been used including Mary Jane coming home and seeing who she believes to be Peter standing in the shadows only for the toothy grin to appear in the mask... Peter going to visit Aunt May only to find her chatting nicely with Eddie Brock... Eddie using the chameleon effect that the suit has and the fact that it doesn't set Pete's spider-sense off to terrorise Peter...

What a totally wasted opportunity to make what could have been a truly classic adaptation.
More Spider man sequels, what a shocker!

Anyone think Spider man 3 will have a superbit DVD, or have they stopped the line completely?
Here is some news that will make many of you spidey fans happy - more sequels, not one but 3 more!

Quote:
Sony Execs Promise at Least Three More Spidey Sequels

The success of Spider-Man 3 brought promises of additional episodes of Spidey and his enemies. "There'll be a fourth and a fifth and sixth and a seventh," Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chairman Amy Pascal told Daily Variety. "As many stories as Peter Parker has to tell, we'll do sequels." Her colleague, Michael Lynton, told the BBC that there would be "as many as we can make good stories for. ... Everybody's been so busy trying to get this one out that that's been the focus. ... When everybody comes up for air, we can think about how to make the next one." Lynton added that, although the critics by and large drubbed the film, "the exit polls show that the audience really loved the movie, and that's what counts." Sony distribution chief Jeff Blake told the New York Times that the box-office count "justifies the expense of a franchise picture like this. And I think it's a great sign for the summer." Several analysts predicted that the film will exceed the revenue produced by the previous two Spider-Man installments, which grossed $821 million and $783 million respectively worldwide -- although they expressed doubt that it could overtake the all-time box office champ Titanic, which took in $1.85 billion.

This could be very interesting, as long as they write good scripts!

What's wrong with A.I and ROTS? I'm proud to love those 2.

mikey mike wrote: that record will be broken in a couple of weeks either by Pirates or Shrek

MAYBE pirates will break it, but I honestly don't think it has the momentum that S3 did. A Lot of ppl were disappointed by Dead Man's Chest. And as for Shrek 3.... again, it could break it, but I just dont think anyone is really clamoring for that one like Spider-Man. Plus, kid-orinted flicks tend to have longer life cycles with lower openings.
So far as my personal negative comments I think I'm going to coin a new phrase: Return of the King Theatrical Edition Disorder. I have a feeling there will be an extended edition DVD release and it will be a much better film.

Still, I guess I've got to add this one to the Hulk, Revenge of the Sith, and A.I. pile of films I love that aren't exactly cool to love in my friend groups.
I loved the bit where he's on the phone with Doc Conners and he's getting Ursula to bring him milk and cookies.
I'm pretty sure that the emo hair was a joke. It got a huge laugh in my theater and I'm pretty sure that we were laughing with the film and not at it.

For the record I absolutely adored the entire Bad Peter sequence, from Staying Alive strut to barroom dance. I haven't laughed so hard since...well I saw Hot Fuzz last, but before that it had been a very long time.
I think Cheddar J. Cheese is right. The IMAX screening of Spider-man 3 is just a BIG screen and sound experience. NOT 3D. Just that the ad I saw promotes IMAX showing 2D and 3D programs.

FFS, why don't they quit while they're behind?
While Spider-Man 3 is out now, you can head on over to FreezeDriedMovies you can read the breaking news on which villains you'll be seeing in Spider-Man 4
Pretty much huh?  I was a $7 contributer to that total and was fairly disappointed.  The action and effects stuff was super fun, but wow were there some huge misteps.  And what was with Raimi KILLING any momentum that built?  Cool action scene - then a long drawn-out conversational scene.  Not terrible by any means, but could have easily been better.

Yeah, Pirates and Shrek will rival.  But damn, it could make 200mil first weekend.  Thats a tall order.
that record will be broken in a couple of weeks either by Pirates or Shrek
That you don't need to deliver a good film as long as you have a built-in audience and a huge marketing budget. Spider-Man 3 was always going to be critic-proof, but it's still a mess compared to the first two films.
HOLY SH*T!!!  148 mil 2 DAY TOTAL?!?!  Thoughts?
Excuse me?

Could've been worse...they could have given him a goatee to signify he was turning evil...

LOL! I actually turned to my mate and said 'f**king hell, evil Emo kid' when I saw it. What were they thinking?!?!? That whole jazz thing as well...
I dont know, maybe Raimi is trying to make more money and attract Emo kids to come and pay for the film.

Too bad the actual film itself sucked.

Brilliant but not the best of the three. Two is way better. The action sequences seemed to be a bit rushed so they could get to more talky bits. Still I really enjoyed it and the only thing to mar it were the FFFing chavs and gangsta rappa wanna bes and their  fat girlfriends. AND JESUS CHRIST CAN'T PEOPLE LAST TWO FFING HOURS WITHOUT HAVING TO PEE!?
I loved it but being a big spidey fan I was going to anyway .. erm but to be honest the whole Venom piece was truly awful you could somehow tell Raimi didn`t really want him in the film, for a start Eddie Brock(topher grace)to nice and cheery, wasn`t angry and pissed off enough to become venom also he wasn`t given any real back story unlike Flint Marko/Sandman ,although he wasn`t given enough screen time ,he just took the becoming sand instead of flesh and bone really quite well and just seemed to amble around not really knowing what he was meant to be doing.. The special effects particularly sandman were awesome but again seemed like they just threw him in there at the last minute to appease fans .. any way I could perhaps dribble on all night but it would be better if we could all sit round down the local with a few pints but hey never mind Happy

Did anyone else but me hate Peter's Emo haircut in the second half?

I agree with what Gabe said. This movie screamed Sam Raimi where as the first two didn't. S2 almost did; but S1 didn't t all. It had everything  I'd want in a Spidey film. Action, drama, romance, music (sorta), comedy, huge battles, great villains and sweet effects sequences. It packed a lot of punch into it's 2+ hour run time.
What a dissapointment! 2.5/5
It's one of those cases of almost all the negative press is accurate but I still loved it dearly. I think a lot of the reason I liked and others don't might have something to do with how very Sam Raimi the film was. Parts one and two aren't so Same Raimi.

The thing about the Venom character is that he's focused squarly on making Peter AND Spiderman's lives awful, and the things Harry does would've been better for that charcater, but I understand Raimi's want to take Harry full circle.

And X-men 2 is still the best superhero movie. nya.
I liked it better than the first, but it was way behind the second one. Its biggest problem is The Sandman is a pretty useless character and only convolutes the plot; it would have been a stronger movie just focusing on Harry and the black suit storyline.
To me, still Spider-Man 2 + Batman Begins remains two the best comic-book movie ever made. Although Spidy 2 has the best reviews of all.

Spidy 3 was good, but no where near memorable, but not as good as the first two, that's what I thought.
Dude, seriously, not even the best Spider-Man film.
Even though Venom was bothced all to hell and underdeveloped... Spider-man 3 stands the best Marvel movie to date. 'Nuff Said.
Well that wasn't a patch on the other two. What is it about the third film in a series of superhero films? They've all been pretty bad. Superman 3, Blade Trinity, X-Men: The Last Stand, and now Spider-Man 3...

3D? The IMAX wasn't 3D here. Are you sure it wasn't a mistake?
