Starship Troopers SE Moratorium
Just a quick note to let everybody know that Sony will be placing the R1 two-disc SE of Starship Troopers on moratorium beginning on the 9th of October. This is a great set, and if you haven't already done so I suggest you go grab it while you can. Most retailers are currently selling it for around $9.99, so there's little reason not to pick it up...unless of course you can't stand the movie.

I heard from someone who worked on this film that it was a brilliant allegory for... (thinks real hard).... was it the Nazis? The bugs are actually the good guys, right?
Someone tell me if this is worth checking out.

Forgot that Chris reviewed this very disc a while back...
Starship Troopers SE Review
If you're into film scores, the disc offers an isolated score track with commentary from composer Basil Poledouris and a slew of other features not included in the first R1 release. As far as the movie itself goes, I had a blast when I saw it in the theater; it's a no-brainer action movie with lots of gore, very cool special effects, and some dark humor thrown in all over the place.

why not buy the Superbit edition? (with the DTS sound)
It has less bonus features. Thanks for the heads-up Matt, now I'm on my way to Best Buy......dammit the games on.

Not really Nazis, but fascism. I was surprised by how much of the fascist stuff was left in from the book. I had expected it to be dumbed down for the audience. It's been awhile since I've seen it, but it is pretty good. But unliked what Matt said, I don't consider it a no-brainer action movie. There's a lot to think about if you care to see past the gore and the action.

Yep, good film for all the undertones. Actually it was the first DVD I bought, I still own the flipper... might be a good time to upgrade.
God that review is stop start. Do I still write like that?

It'll be available until current stock is sold and retailers won't be able to order more copies.
No wonder it was in the $5.50 bin at WalMart
One of the best allegorical action-comedies of all time. I loved it when I didn't get the undertones, and loved it more when I figured it out. Verhoven can be a great filmmaker. his best films appeal to both the mindless action fan and the intelectual film fan in me.
And the DVD in the 5.50 bin is probably the flipper.

Was there a flipper in R1? I thought it was a dual-sided disc with the movie on side A and the features on side B? I used to own it before it got nicked and I upgraded to the new SE.
The first release was a dual-sided disc with the movie on side-A and the features on side-B, and yeah, that's the one that's been in the Wal Mart $5.50 bins, not the SE.
