Superman Ultimate Edition DISCONTINUED
Letter from DVDPacific: Unfortunately there have been some changes in this procedure, due to the fact that Warner has come up with new information.

Warner are replacing discs for international customers who contact them via the 800 number. They will mail out the replacement discs in a return prepaid envelope and when the customer receives he needs to return the original discs in the return envelope. Unfortunately we cannot obtain the discs ourselves and replace for customers as would be the easiest way and customers have to deal with Warner direct at this time. They may change this but for now this is the only way to go. There "official" press release is below:

"Bonus content was omitted from the Superman III Deluxe Edition in the 14-disc Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition. Furthermore, disc one of Superman: The Movie Four Disc Special Edition did not include the Dolby Digital 2.0 mix. Neither disc is known to be physically defective in any way.

Warner Home Video wants to extend apologies to all of our loyal Superman fans who've waited so patiently for these great collections and has taken immediate steps to correct these errors with the intention of standing behind our product 100%.

Replacement discs can be obtained by calling: 800-553-6937. The exchange program applies only to purchases of the Superman III Deluxe Edition in the Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition and to disc one of Superman: The Movie Four Disc Special Edition, available as a single title, as well as in The Christopher Reeve Superman Collection and in the Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition."

It would also appear that Warner are not about to recall the boxes currently in distribution but in fact continue to ship them as they feel that the problem is not that great that warrants a recall or immediate fix. So any new stock we receive will continue to have the same problems for the time being.

If any customer wishes to return the whole set then we will accept them as a return but we will not reimburse postage on the return as customers can have the problem rectified by dealing direct with Warner.

Before, Warner gave us an answer we were trying to accommodate our customer asap, to get these
products back to see if we could beat the Christmas rush, however, since
then we have received word from Warner. As soon as I get the package I will be sending the item
back to you asap, via FedEx so that I can get it back before Christmas. If you still want to return the full product,
please let me know. However, it is important to note that:

Warner have announced they are discontinuing the Superman Ultimate Collection effective immediately. We can no longer get anymore stock on this title and they will not be making anymore with or without corrected discs.
There is some talk that they may do another version sometime in the future but will be in different packaging but this is purely speculation so these may well become fairly exclusive collector's sets and customers who were thinking of returning might do well to keep them and phone in to Warner for replacement discs rather than returning the whole box for credit in the hope of a reissue with corrected discs.

Regards,

Sorry for the inconvenience, once again.

When I called they said they were sending an envelope for me to return the defective discs in before they send me corrected ones. That's not such a great deal for International customers, especially if they go missing in the post. I guess there's always a slim chance that they will just send the discs directly, but I don't hold out much hope...

That's bad news

I haven't got this yet. Why not release it now with a correct disc-set? There's a lot of people still waiting to buy this title and got hold back because of the problems occured in the first place...

I guess eBay is the way to go then 'Wink

Demiscy,

The set that shipped on/ after 6th of December were with the correct set of discs but then it dissapeared quite quickly after that! However, R3 Korea and Singapore still have the set with 13-Disc, same Tin Case - 1 less disc though

What a shame for those who waits, usually all good things come to those who wait 'Wink

Was that an intentional pun or just an unfortunate reference to his accident?

Can't say because it's not in the box Wink If Superman IV is anything to go by, it'll be no better. Can't polish a turd and all that.

Superman 3 and 4 look like what the unrestored S2 looked like when compared to the extended Superman The Movie 2001 DVD. Does that make sense? I've only watched about half of 3 and just skipped through bits of 4 for the commentary. All you could describe 3 and 4 as being would be adequate. The image is bright but flat with the slight dirt throughout. Nothing to comb your hair about.

Firstly, I am pretty sure they will re-release this. Way to many people still want it. Including me. Secondly, I don't understand why they have to have different packaging. Some people, myself included, was looking forward to getting it in the tin, and now are screwed out of it. Oh well, I just want the movies. I am being as patient as I can.

Just wondering if anyone in the UK has gotten the envelopes yet. (Chris?) I just called today, and they said it would take 7-10 days to get there. I would be interested to know how long it actually has taken, holidays excluded.

It's back In-Stock now...who knows for how long. However, the price has also gone up to $74.99 at Amazon, still fairly much worth it for arguably one of, if not, the best dvd set for the year.

I will probably get it now, it should be the correct set this time around.

Good Luck and Happy New Year everyone!

How well were they packed? I have my doubts about them surviving the trip over the Atlantic (if the discs I send back ever make it to Warner in the first place).

The discs were in the same type of cardboard envelope that  they sent me to mail back the defectives. Each of the two discs were also in their own paper sleeves. No notes or other paraphernalia were included (not an apology for the whole screw-up or for the stinkers called Superman 3 and 4). Wish you well for your delivery

If you think that's bad you should try being an international customer. They don't do the phonetic alphabet well at all...  'B for bravo' I said, to which she replied 'd?'. No, 'B for bravo', I repeated. 'B for Ben?', she said. 'Yes', I said, in a weary voice...

Thank you very much Demiscy for passing on the letter. I can now let my retailer know of this update. He too, is waiting on an official reply from DVDpacific. He will be very happy to hear this, as I am one of at least five people who bought the crippled Region 1 set from him.

At least I got a chuckle from their mistake, somehow they got my name as being Million from what I told them over the phone.
