I like it, it's better than that ugly rumour of "The Joker" floating around a few weeks ago.
As for Heath Ledger, I was skeptical when I first heard it, but after awhile of thinking it over, he could be very good as teh Clown Prince of Crime. He is obviously a great actor and should mix well with an already stellar ensemble cast (except for Katie Holmes).

One good film doesn't make a great actor. It may work out. I couldn't see Michael Keaton as Batman either and that was a bit of inspired casting.

He's been in more than one good film. And he is a good actor, he isn't recognisable in any 2 roles because he becomes the character (like any). I agree with the Michael Keaton comment. I have faith in Nolan as I didn't see Bale as a good Batman and we all know how that turned out. So they wouldn't have chosen him if he wasn't up to their standards of being a great actor. I like the title, and I an impartial to the Joker casting. He may be able to pull it off. So far, with the outstandingly good job Christopher Nolan did with the "Begins" movie, I'd trust him not to screw it up with a sequal. The casting in 'Begins' was uber-great, so I trust he has an idea what he is doing.

I coulda sworn his early incarnation was black, but I can't find anything on it, so I concede.
So do you reckon that the Joker will stick to the comic version or do you reckon that they'll add a bit of the acrobatic cartoon version from The Batman into the mix? It'd make for some good fight scenes...

Not if he has a big part role. If he is cast he will be signed for two movies.

I want the Joker to be scary, but I'm pretty sure that won't be a problem considering the fact that fear was the basis of the previous film. And I really don't want him to be a fighter. He's got henchmen for that.
He has to be insane/scary. I mean, we've never really seen an actually insane Joker (in pictures). Nicholson was evil and a bit crazy. The animated Joker was cartoony and zany, therefore insane, but tame enough for a audience of children.
This Joker has to be completely psychotic and genuinely frightening. A ruthless killer and laughing while doing anything. Nicholson might've done that, but I never was convinced that he was the ultimate Batman villain.
It would be interesting, and I think good if the movie didn't show the Joker until the end. As I understand it, it's about Batman, Gordon and Dent tracking down the Joker. Maybe have them only glimpse him and then he escapes or something, very teaseful until the climax (where he ultimately gets away and scars Dent in the process).

As for Dent, when I heard Liev Schreiber's name go out there, I thought he'd be perfect. But now it's leaning more towards Josh Lucas who has expressed interest. I dunno if I can see him doing it... Dent has to be older too, mid to late 30s to early 40s.

I think they are stuck somewhat with the Joker being there, but I'd like to see them continue to use the lesser mainstream villians, too. Let's see Harvey Dent be Harvey Dent in the sequal, and maybe get burned toward the end and rushed to the hospital, and save all his Two-Faceness to be in part three as he struggles for sanity and all. Ras is immortal, but I hope they are done with him. I'd like to see Scarecrow come back, but no more screen time than before. Maybe he could be the opening hook, like the movie starts out with his final adventure/capture to show there have been adventures and work between the films. As before... I trust in the Nolan. Just my 2cents here.

Although it appeared to be a case of 'stunt' casting it didn't seem to be a bad idea at the time as Batman & Robin was the rather low bench mark back then. Anyone else remember this rumour?

Smells Fishy to me, but it could just as easily be true. Love the title too, although they don't specify if it will be prefaced by "Batman:" or something to that effect.
