The Exorcist vs The Omen
Just wondering what the general opinion of these two franchises is?

I bought the Exorcist Anthology released the other week and realized my memories of it are more rich than the films themselves. They're all miserably bad minus the original.

Just bought the Omen Collection and minus the remake (which I'm probably too hard on), I love these films. The score and cinematography (especially in Omen 3) are spectacular. IV sucks, but given the director, it's to be expected.

What do you people think about these two similar franchises?

First Omen was great. Second, ok, third was a little iffy, but still genuinely creepy. Jerry Goldsmith was a genius, it's a shame he only got one Oscar, but fitting taht it was from "The Omen". The remake was ok, I dunno why people hate it... If it's a shot by shot remake, how can it be worse than the original?

Exorcist is overrated in my opinion, not scary (I guess I've been desensitised, what with the World and all). I need to rewatch it, so my opinion of it may change in the next few days, but it stands for now. Never saw the sequels (what was the point?)

Oh hell, Chris. You're joking, right? Englund and the writers absolutely ruined that character starting with Dream Warriors. He didn't become frightening again until New Nightmare, only to throw it all away with FvsJ.

I'm not a very big fan of The Omen, but at least the movies are kinda cohesive as a whole. Exorcist and Legion are the only really worth while films in that series, but the original is such an amazing film and the original Omen such a mediocre one that I give the edge to Exorcist.

And for the record I actually enjoy NOES 1-5, like the kills in 6, and thought New Nightmare was too pretentious for its own good. And I adore FVSJ, even if it isn't even slightly scary. Halloween and F13 are pretty much not good as series.

Hopefully we'll see the final part of Argento's Mother's Trilogy next year and I'll have a new favorite horror series.

Gabe, I agree that the orginal and Legion are the only one's worth watching out of the exorcist franchise. As for the omen, I haven't seen all of any one of them from start to finish so I can't really pass judgment on them yet.
