Yeah...I've been meaning to order that for some time now solely for the commentary, Cronenberg has some of the best tracks around.

yeah the English 5.1 plays fine for me.  oddly enough, when I put it on the French 5.1(cause I also speak French) it would go in and out... there must be something on the disc itself then.
There are a few older Canadian editions that are worth having, such as Existenz which contains the Cronberg commentary that the US version doesn't.  Also, there is the Canadian 3 disc version of Brotherhood of the Wolves.  But, I would guess these are few and far between.
I'll say it again. Avoid Canadian versions like the plague and buy American.

Well, that sucks.  Who ever heard of a 5.1 dubbed track and not the original language track?
Ged, here's your answer, from TheDigitalBits.com:

We've gotten wind from our north-of-the-border readers that DreamWorks' DVD release of The Island (distributed by Universal) up in Canada is missing its English Dolby Digital 5.1 track. The packaging says the disc includes both English and French 5.1 audio, but when you actually play the disc, only French 5.1 and English 2.0 audio is available.
I don't know the answer to this one. My videostore puts rentals out early too. So, would that make it illegal too?
Actually, depending on the wording in the contract with the distributors (and there are always legally binding contracts), it is probably illegal.  Will anyone ever go to jail for it?  Probably not.  Doesn't make it less illegal.
Tony DeFrancisco wrote: Actually, it's all legal.
Yeah...as in there's no law against it and no one will be fined or sent to jail, but that doesn't change the fact that breaking release dates will get you in trouble with distributors, as in a distributor holding back on stock or certain releases as a penalty, or just stopping business with your store altogether.
Adrain wrote:  Jeez, getting something a few days early could not be worth paying nearly double for the disk, at least for me.

I'm surprised the video store sells early.  If the distributor finds out, they could pull their stock at of the video store for violating terms of distribution.

I got hands on your R1 Must Love Dogs, Fantastic Four, Serenity and Four Brothers today, Monday. Like Tom said, Australia was one of the first to release "The Island" on DVD, just last month. The packaging is terrible, along with that classification sticker. Will be waiting for the R1 copy. I have a friend who owns an import CD/DVD shop in Sydney.

I've only just got around to watching it - albeit the R4 version. Pretty good on the whole, although the second half is nowhere near as good as the first half - and I'm a big Michael Bay action junky usually! I even liked Pearl Harbor! Still, I'd say its probably Bay's second best film (behind The Rock - of course!). I liked Bad Boys 2 a lot, but it dragged on too long.

I dont know how you got it so early, but try throwing it into a computer dvd drive with power dvd or similar player that will tell you how many different audio tracks it has, etc..

If it can be played, it'll happen on a PC.
