Any news on a future SE re-release of the above. The first Region 1 and Region 2 releases had poor transfers and many are hoping for a new 2 disc Special Edition with much improved picture definition.

the two disc special edition with both versions of the film and a full length commentary as well as in depth documentaries wasnt enough for you   (i refer to the region 2 dvd)

Nope, I don't own a region free player and I have been waiting for theis film to be handled properly on DVD since the first non-anamorphic edition was released waaay back.

You might have a long wait for a decent version of this. I ran a new 35m print of the directors cut a couple of years ago and it looked awful. I'd heard back then that the DVD releases were bad but so was the print. You could see the joins where the new footage had been cut in and the new footage itself stood out a mile with colours all over the place. This Oscar winner certainly hasn't been given the release it deserves so far.

That's unfortunate. Its a film that deserves a full restoration and DVD release befitting its status. I can't believe its not on its way. I would love to see a decent release of Warren Beatty's "Reds." It is without-a-doubt its his best work.
