TITANIC
So, I've got to ask (since it's been so controversial), what do people think of the new set?

IMO, I love it. I think it's a great set. It's got GREAT features, even if we are missing the 4th disc. And our packaging is much better than the 4-disc editions (at least Mexicos - check it out here), and apparently, there are some easter eggs as well (which I'm gonna check out in a minute). So, overall, I think this is a great DVD, what do you all think?

I didn't buy it yet, but I heard it was a sweet set.

Yes, it really is, and yes there ARE easter eggs, at least three and they are the parodies.

The Ben Stiller/Vince Vaughn/James Cameron sequel pitch is located on the Marketing menu page. You need to highlight the newspaper in the corner (VERY easy on a computer with your mouse).

The "Titanic: In 30 Seconds and Re-enacted by Bunnies" is on the Still Galleries page. There is a drwaing with a huge arrow in it. Highlight the arrow (you can' miss it) and you can see it.

The SNL "Altnerate Ending" is found on the last Deleted Scenes page (#29), highlight the couple in the lower right-hand corner of the screen and you can see it.

Enjoy! :D

What is the alternate ending? What happens?

Don't read if you don't want to know!

Spoiler
The alternate ending (entitled "Brock's Epihpany" ) is fine as a stand-alone scene, but would have COMPLETELY ruined the film. It sets up Old Rose looking like shes going to jump off the Keldish (or however the hell you spell it), and Brock and Lizzy come running to stop her. Bobby and Louis join them. Rose reveals she's had the necklace the whole time, shocking everyone. She talks about life, etc. and lets Brock actually hold it, but she doesn't actually yank it out. She makes it his decision. Of course, he lets go, and she throws it overboard. Brock goes through like 30 emotions its interesting) and then starts to laugh and asks Lizzy to dance. Then Rose looks up at the stars, where she sees a shooting star (you will find out this was a motif they cut out completely), and we go back to the original ending, with her dream/death (however you interpret it). There are many great lines from Louis, and it ties up many plot lines, but, like I said, it would have completely ruined the film. Be grateful for what you got! Wink

Many of the 29 deleted scenes are absolutely wonderful as well! I mainly wish they had kept the extended Carpathia sequence (minus Cal's part). It was quite wonderful...sad and disturbing, yet happy.

Totally. But if he had finally decided to release this edition I would have kept it under wraps and released in December, 2007 as a 10th Anniversary Edition with 4 discs. But that's just me. Still, I'm glad we got it sooner than later.

Just cracked this open yesterday. The canadian box is ugly as hell, but the new transfer is beautiful. Gonna give it more of a whirl today. Very Happy

LOL, I'm sorry the box is so ugly. Is it really so different from the US's, or is it the same packaging and you just hate it?

BTW, nice sig Very Happy

It's not as bad as some, but its bad enough. The front has a lot of repeated info as does the spine. The back has the THX banner completely in french while the description of the contents on the inside flap is cut in half with tiny text, one half in english, the other in french. Tongue

BTW thanks - I happen to think Mandy Moore is a cutie. Wink

Yah, the English/French would bug me. I say they should release a whole French version and a whole English version. That would be much better, unless it wouldn't for whatever reason(s).(LOL, I wouldn't know since I'm not in Canada.)

I bought this DVD and its worth the money.  However I would of loved to see the cut footage re-inserted back into the movie

A great shame the full length doc was pulled from this release at the last minute. I suppose they've got to hold something back for the HD release.
