Remember that your DVD player will need to convert the PAL signal to NTSC, or your TV will need to be able to handle a PAL signal directly.
Many players can be 'hacked' from the remote control, by entering a numerical code that unlocks the player to a region free coding. Although most Sonys and Panasonics won't allow you to do this, nearly every other brand on the planet will. Just google a 'remote hack for (enter brand name here)' and you should be fine. My Philips is region 2, but after 3 mins on the net, I found a hack, and now its region free!! Worth a try at the very least.
