There's four columns on the homepage, two main ones that show local content at the top, and two secondary columns at the bottom that show world content.
I will be putting a feature live soon (hopefully tomorrow) that will allow members to customise the homepage. This feature will allow you to decide if you want two or four columns, and then decide what should go in those columns.
