I've notice a lot of filmmakers wer impressed by this movie. I think that even those who didn't enjoy it have to admit that it was very well directed.

I saw this first day, and I was astonished! Dakota Fanning's best work yet (behind Man On Fire). Steven Spielberg made this movie what it is today. As Chris said, it's not a remake. It is actually a spinoff of a different story on War of the Worlds. They should make a War of the Worlds 2, being about a different family trying to survive the attack.

I really want to see the movie, but I feel I should read the book or see the 50s adaptation first. The only encounter I've had with the material is the CBS Broadcast by Orson Welles and parts of the Jeff Wayne musical.
