If you lost the last 20 minutes you'd lose Ben Kingsley's superb voice work for the alien and voiceover. The ending, (SPOILER ALERT! Read no further if you haven't seen the film)Spoiler while sentimental, is also unsettling and finishes the story off. I would want that film ending with David a popsicle at the bottom of the sea.
Matt- Thanks for the kind post!  And Stanton, if the Death Star plans had been captured by the rebels at the end of Revenge of the Sith where would they have been for 18 years?  The beginning of Star Wars has a sense of immediacy in trying to get the plans to the rebels.  The bridge has to lie somewhere with Leia, the droids and Captain Antilles just prior to the start of A New Hope.  But, while it's not the end of the movie, I would have preferred to have seen the Emporer cut his fight with Yoda short in order to save Annakin instead of having Yoda cut and run to a self-imposed exile.  If the Emporer had felt Annakin's peril via the force and ended the fight both characters would have retained their strength.
No, "A.I." is perfect the way it is. The whole point of the movie is for David to feel loved, and he finally is. And that's how Kubrick always intended it to be.
AI: Artificial Intelligence - trim the last 20 minutes!

Training Day. His death at the end was such a letdown. He got humiliated enough by everyone else, he didnt need to die

Having just watched it again earlier this week, I have to admit that's a pretty good one right there.
The Black Hole - Even though it was a 2001 style ending, at the end of the day the makers should of realised that it was supposed to be entertaining, so even if they said the Black Hole would lead to some sort of alternate universe, or even a time hole, where it threw them forward or backwards in time, either way they could of left it with them trying to get back home, which would of led to a possible sequel.

The ending of War of the worlds worked very well when the story was written and germs were still a new thing. Perhaps they should've altered it for hte modern release, but I think that in the end Speilberg's film was not about logical conclusions, but metaphores.

it was a  total accident
Stanton, you start about 10 threads a day and you always start them with about 4 posts that you should combine into one.  I realize in this one you trippleclicked submit, but look at your others.  It's unnecessary to make multiple posts all at once like that.  But anyway, I didn't like the ending of War Of The Worlds.  It's just stupid, for both of the versions.
The original Saw, I liked the ending, but they could have shown what happened to Cary Elwes.
I'm thinking that maybe, just maybe, stanton would change the ending of Titanic.
Titanic. I wold had the old woman give the guy the neckless and he would give her the drawing that Jack did.

As much as I love Star Wars I still cringe with "return of the Jedi" Singing Fur-balls! Even the special edition still had them!  I would of also like the m to change the ending of "Revenge of the Sith" Iwould had the ending that had the rebels stealing the Death Star plans...thus that would of led us to the Begining of Star Wars
