* The method of persuasion Gabe is utilizing here is known as "Reverse Psychology", in where the persuader employs pessimism in order to effect a positive outcome, basically stating the opposite of what he or she wants the persuaded to do.

I can tell you what not to see - Deck the Halls. No reverse psychology needed there, as it's just c**p. Actually, probably the worst film I've seen all year.

honestly though, these claims of the film being pretentious or confusing are idiotic. It's so simplistic it's almost sappy at times.
