Kinda of my whole point in a nutshell there Tony.
40 Year Old Virgin and Wedding Crashers. The first 30 mins I found hilarious, afterwards I couldn't get out more than a snicker.

The thing about the first one that I liked was how "cool" everyone was and how simple of a story it was, and I think Twelve got lost in the idea of making something elaborate, rather then the simplicity of Eleven.
Most people I know didn't like 12. I wasn't sure on first viewing and I tried to figure out what it was, what was missing from it or what was different than 11. I came to the conclusion that 11 is a 'heist' film and 12 is a 'con' film. 11 includes the audience more and 12 seems more content to keep the audience shut out for longer. By the time we get to the end of the movie, I think the people who don't like the movie, feel cheated and deliberatly mis-led. 12 has grown on me in subsequent viewings. I think it is every bit as good as 11 and I think that (despite 12 adapting an existing caper movie screenplay and not having an original one written specifically for the cast of characters) the approach to it and the execution was far more original and satisfying long term than just regurgitating the structure of 11.
