I would say you know it's going to be bad, from the trailers, who is starring in the film, what the premise(storyline) is, and of course the U.S. Box Office figures (this can help me decide if a new movie is worth getting on Dvd, especially if it comes out in R1 before Aus cinemas!)

The best films are almost always flops
Thanks for the link. I was fully aware that A Beautiful Mind has won a ton of awards but it doesn't change my opinion one iota.  The Academy, in particular, have always had a liking for movies concerning people with mental illness. Even more so, if they happen to be 'true stories'.
I think you are in a small minority when it comes to A Beautiful mind.  A Beautiful Minds awards
Can't speak for Cinderella Man, but I thought A Beautiful Mind was terrible. Mawkish and derivative. The screenplay wasn't quite as bad as Russel Crowe's embarrassing performance though.

Yes, because Cinderella Man and A Beautiful Mind were awful movies. Rolling Eyes
When it's written by Akiva Goldsman.

For some reason, I think Haylie Duff is hotter than Hilary Duff.
What's the difference? They are both two anorexic teenaged sluts.

i cant stop lauging when i`m reading this! Laugh2 (i`m norwegian so I suck writing english, so if there is any spelling mistakes, forgive me! Cool )

Tony? You Da Man!

Well I'm into women. But rather with the Duff siblings, I'd rather it be Jessica Alba or Stacy Keibler. And I'm still a teen, so by my mid 20s, Alba's gonna be looking a like a dust mop and Stacy Keibler won't have the body of a diva no more. So I'll enjoy their hot bodies while it lasts.

When it's straight to video.

He's got a point.

If Uwe Boll directed a movie starring Hilary Duff, wouldn't you have to watch just to see how bad it would be?
When they use a a quote from Paul Ross or someone else from News of the World to promote a movie.
A remake.

TRUST ME ON THIS IT WAS.
The only truly bad movie he has done was Dreamcatcher and I am not sure that movie is truly his fault.
He lost it after "Grand Canyon"
So you are saying that "Body Heat", "The Big Chill", "Silverado", and "The Accidental Tourist" were bad movies?
 It has "Lawerence Kasdan" directing.
Not really.  There are places where cell phones do not work.  Until we go to satellite phones, there will never be complete coverage.

Actually, most movies need this to make the movie plausable.  Things like Breakdown wouldn't be very good if you don't rule out mobile phones.

Thats my point. Its a sure fire sign of lazy film-making.
"In a Time"
"...in a world..."
...when the glowing reviews are from critics and/or publications you've never heard of.
if its directed by Uwe Boll or stars Hilary Duff.. or her sister

SPECIES!!!  How could I forget Species!  That has one of the worst and most hysterical movie moments in the history of cinema!  Forest Whitaker plays the PSYCHIC member of the team hunting the monster.  A woman has been killed in a train compartment.  Whitaker walks into the compartment where the woman's body is hanging, which is drenched in blood a viscera, and as he stands ankle deep in the woman's blood he ominously says, "I feel that something bad has happened here."  Well, he wasn't wrong.
Tony DeFrancisco wrote: If it stars Steven Segeal.

I concur
He had to prove that Species wasn't a mistake. It was deliberate.
When the previews end and says from Director X and I have no idea who he is.  I've seen more movies than most people and if I can't identify what Director X is done, I doubt the general public can either.

Besides, Mal beat us to the most obvious indicator that a movie is bad.  Two Words.....Uwe Boll........How could Ben Kingsley sink that low?
Or acting. Internal Affairs aside.
If it has anything to do with Adam Sandler (Punch Drunk Love not withstanding).
When Richard Gere attempts any sort of accent.
The name NOra Ephron is on it
You know a movie is going to be bad when...

'Co-Produced by Sigourney Weaver' appears onscreen.
Mal
Obvious, but has to be stated. When it says "Uwe Boll" or "Paul W.S. Anderson" as director or producer or writer.

Boll can't even make good trailers whilst Anderson's stuff is almost always mediocre; it's so aggravating to see the material go to waste. It should be law that anything by these two be automatically considered for a remake.
Can we stick to movies that DO SHOW in the cinemas. We all know there's a lot of movies going straight to video are no good anyway.

If it stars Steven Segeal.
I generally find that the more trailers a theater runs before the feature the worse the movie is going to be.  If you're getting six, seven, eight trailers before the movie starts set the snooze alarm.
When itsa sequel without the orignal stars.
You know a movie is going to be bad when?
More times than not "John Travolta" is in it.
